I found it interesting his change of referance of units as TF Blue and TF Green. Pretty common knowledge at the time and now. There are several others I suspect will be referenced as thier JSOC TF name or numbers. He was never a insider leading up to the JSOC assingment and that is telling. I am just this minute seeing an interview on CBS this morning with him. He was professional BUT he was no General Schumacker, Boykin, or Bargewell. His handling of the Tillmen event he should have been put on the retirement list. VR James Mattes |

Usually there is an extensive period of investigation for awarding prestigious medals, Tillman was fast tracked from higher office. Stormin Norman was often blamed for the terms of the Desert Storms conclusion, but with all the nations and political bodies involved I really doubt terms were left for one soldier to define without "guidance". Eisenhower had great trouble managing Montgomery and Patton, that didn't get exposed till later. Soldiers are not perfect, witness the youtube and social media fiascos. But over all, a soldier follows orders and performs the best they can. It does not matter if like or dislike of a superior is present. Respect of the office/rank is first. Grousing and griping is standard issue in the military
I bet the legionaires under Ceasar had all sorts of colorful things to say about him while building two walls, foraging, sieging, and besieging. |

Pre-ordered. Excerpts look interesting. I've been having trouble getting through Petraeus' biography as his biographer is a little closer to a hagiographer. Shawn. |

LOL Shawn, seriously. But you have to love the double-entendre "All In" title. |

I find it interesting how every single soldier who had his job and the equivalent one in Iraq was always described as brilliant and innovative. Then, six months later, most of them were revealed as disgraced and incompetent. It's interesting how this one made no effort to hide his contempt for Higher Authority. Well, I share his opinion, but when *I* express it, I am not violating any oath. Civilians have more
leeway in this regard than the military. At least, that's the way it SHOULD be. |

Incompetent seems a bit strong John, but you have a tendency to be a bit harsh and overstated at times. That's O.K., I don't have a problem with that. We all have opinions. Of course my experiences in my past as an active duty Infantry Officer ('79-'90), I may have a more "accurate" appreciation of a General Officer's duties and responsibilities, etc.
It is a very Big job, but in the end, they are all human. And they have predilections and weaknesses as we all do
Not that that excuses any of what some have done on the negative side. However, may be it's my military background, but I still generally have some respect for them, as I have a working knowlegde of what it takes to become a General Officer. Where most, if any civilains/those who never served, probably does not really have any idea. But that being said we are all allowed to have opinions. And which isn't to say I have not met any incompetent officers, but saying that I have met very, very few. Like on a football team, some players are better than others
Although I'll freely admit I frequently berate our elected officials/politicians
and I've never been one

'I've been having trouble getting through Petraeus' biography as his biographer is a little closer to a hagiographer.' I had an argument with the biographer
it was about the fact she was always leaving the door of the office open and stuff was disappearing
and I had no hunch on whom she was! |

Hmm ? Interesting observation Arrigo
And I had to look up hagiographer – link Have not heard that term before
