"No list of Pennsylvania maps would be complete without one of the Gettysburg battlefield and this one comes from The Rebel Invasion of Maryland & Pennsylvania and Battle of Gettysburg, by M. Jacobs, published by J. B. Lippincott & Co., Philadelphia 1864. Jacobs was a professor at Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, and an eyewitness to the battle. His booklet was very popular, going to seven editions by 1909. The battle became famous from the day it ended and many battlefield maps appeared during the rest of the 19th century. The Union divisions are shown in red and the Confederate in blue, the reverse of the usual coloring. An attempt to show the entire battle is made by giving dates to the various positions"

The map with troop positions is not accurate so not worth very much.

It's had his historical value.

Historical value over 100 years ago (or more) not now. The Bachelder maps were/are FAR superior to it and came out in a relative same time frame. Today it is just a collectors piece if original, nothing more. One look at the troops positions will tell you there are MANY mistakes.

I love old maps and prints of old maps. I have an modern print of an old globe type map hanging about 10 feet from my computer desk. It isn't very accurate but it is visually pleasing and fits with the historical theme of the room. Also, the book by the same title as the above mentioned M. Jacobs map sells for aroung $500 USD to $600. USD It must have some "historical" and/or collector value.
