He was actually peed off over the sandbag armour which he specifically forbade in his Army units, The Division had previously belonged to a different army group where it was permitted

Anybody who has several vehicles and a private luxury truck to live in while in the field gets a "Yes General Yes General Three Bags Full!" from me until he leaves.. then I go on tanking the way I want to.

Been there, done that, the General left in his chopper happy.

"Mount up! Driver.. move out."

Yeah, it's amazing what some commanders do to massage their egos. I was Division Postal Officer and we had two vans to handle mail service to the troops. They were mini post offices. So the Division Adjutant General decided the troops only needed one of those and took the other to convert into a mobile home for himself. It goes all the way down the line. One battery commander used up all the panneling provided for the mobile fire direction center and used it to panel his office, then whined until the battalion commander approved more paneling to do what he was supposed to do in the first place. This, at a time we were limping month to month just to provide enough paper to take care of official business.

Great looking models !!! Yeah, sometimes higher HQs needs to keep out of the way and let the troops do their jobs … but that always doesn't happen …

One of my neighbors was a tank commander under Patton. See those sand bags on the tank in the picture. He also had some on his tank. That's how he met Patton who stopped and chewed him out because evidently sand bags slow down tanks and Patton was having none of that. My neighbor preferred safety to speed but kept his mouth closed and removed the bags as ordered.
