You have to play this game in a poorly lit room
Don't forget the dental mirrors to get fig's eye view. As long as it's not into the necessary room

Another outstanding and practical suggestion, Doug! |
Colonel O Truth | 26 Apr 2013 11:37 p.m. PST |
OK – here's more
Added a further 2,111 rivets since last time
Technical hitches, bits of wire and loads more on the blog

You know? I have to stay away from your threads for awhile. I keep running out of superlatives. You'd think that CGI rules the cinema, but there's room for this talent still. Really, can't you see Robert Downey, Jr. running down the corridor, hitting his head on those buttresses? ;->= Nope, the superlative well has run completely dry. Doug |
Colonel O Truth | 27 Apr 2013 2:29 p.m. PST |
Thanks, Doug – always nice to hear from you, even in a superlatively-limited capacity! Sadly, Weta do not share your view – they aen't using model makers right now. |

Okie Dokie

Distracted? Me?! I'll have you know that when I am on a mission, Sir
Oh look: biscuits. |
Xintao | 11 Jun 2013 10:53 a.m. PST |
Col Sir, I didn't want to interrupt your rivet making but,how do you make the rivets. I looked around your site for about 1/2 hour, couldn't find an answer. Thanks, Xin |
Colonel O Truth | 11 Jun 2013 12:10 p.m. PST |
Hi Xin. The rivets are cut from plastic rod – mostly 1.6mm, but also 1mm and 2mm. I cut about fifty at a time by hand with a sharp knife and apply them to spots of glue with a fine steel knitting needle. It's surprisingly relaxing! |
snodipous | 15 Jun 2013 6:33 p.m. PST |
Why aren't the floor boards individually rivetted into place?? Lazy! |
Colonel O Truth | 15 Jun 2013 7:37 p.m. PST |
Thanks for that observation, Snodipous

We all ran out of words for such a marvel.I hope your work bench is going to be strong enough when its finished.Dare we ask what is the next part of this walking beastie once the engine section is finished ? |
TheBeast | 13 Aug 2013 6:28 a.m. PST |
My reservoir of descriptive phrases of the superlative drained long ago, and I said so. The good Colonel admitted to a bit of burn out recently, so no prodding. He knows of our admiration and impatience already. ;->= Doug |
DLIinVSF | 14 Aug 2013 5:26 a.m. PST |
Prodding stick put away! ;) |

Colonel, I'm gonna come out and say that you are the best VSF modeler out there, bar none. Your work is simply astonishing, and what most of us wish we had the time, and more importantly, the talent, to achieve. No superlatives – they've all been used, as others have mentioned. Just please keep us posted. We love to watch your creations come to existence. -J |
Colonel O Truth | 16 Aug 2013 3:40 a.m. PST |

How does one respond to that? Thank you! I'll try to live up to your accolades! |

I'm long since out of superlatives
Yes, there's been a real shortage late, even a talk of a run on the banks. I believe Interpol is coordinating an investigation. The culprits must be found! A crisis is eminent! Oh, have you seen the tortoises? the sharks? Doug |
Colonel O Truth | 02 Sep 2013 3:17 a.m. PST |
Gentlemen, thank you. I am so sorry I drained your superlatives. Might I suggest a powerful combination of alcohol, Roget's Thesaurus and series two of Blackadder? Planning the next Nefarious Machination of the Nefarious Doktor Nefarious right now
|
Colonel O Truth | 08 Sep 2013 5:05 a.m. PST |
Added the starboard gantry and handrail and a bit of work on the hull

Oh, and Colonel, old bean, love your work dearly, but nothing can make me watch any Blackadder. Doug |

Doug – it was only a suggestion
Sorry I've been quiet on this one. Just finished a hovercraft that was meant to take about a week and ended up taking a month! Back to this project ASAP! |
Colonel O Truth | 26 Nov 2013 2:41 a.m. PST |
OK – here's more. Forgot to post on here the last couple of weeks
As you can see, it's all getting a little complicated now. My apologies for not putting a long description on here – please have a look at the blog for details. I'll try to keep up in future! colonelotruth.blogspot.co.nz |

Thanks, but already guided there by the Anty's. ;->= REALLY excited to hear further development, but, as always, no pressure. By the by, you may call me Thomas; feeling a bit of the doubt about the insectoids. You'd think I'd learn, wouldn't you? Doug |
Colonel O Truth | 26 Nov 2013 10:28 a.m. PST |
In that case, Mr Doug Thomas The Beast, I will try even harder to impress you! |

Great googly-moogly! 'Scuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor
|
TheBeast | 26 Nov 2013 11:59 a.m. PST |
Great googly-moogly! Your first viewing? We frequent gawkers have already admitted to a thoroughly used up supply of superlatives from previous jaw-droppers. So far, I believe this the biggest and best, but there have been others
Welcome to the club. ;->= Doug |
Colonel O Truth | 26 Nov 2013 9:15 p.m. PST |
Unfortunately, I have no plans to add either googlies or mooglies to this particular creation, but the sentiment is greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
Lion in the Stars | 27 Nov 2013 12:08 p.m. PST |
No, not near my first time seeing the Colonel's madness. But I'm out of usable vocabulary
Unfortunately, I have no plans to add either googlies or mooglies to this particular creation<q/>Underfoot, certainly? |
Colonel O Truth | 27 Nov 2013 1:09 p.m. PST |
Googly Underfoot?! Wasn't he a hobbit? |
mrinku | 27 Nov 2013 7:18 p.m. PST |
I'll simply state that I've been riveted to this thread (and the blog) for some time
Colonel, what's the method used to make the railings? |
Colonel O Truth | 28 Nov 2013 1:14 p.m. PST |
Mrinku – glad you're riveted! Thank you. The railings are mostly just 1.6mm plastic rod, cut to length, and mounted on posts of the same. Sockets, etc. are made from plastic tube to fit the rod. Pretty simple really. I have recently started using 1.6mm brass rod (such as on my hovercraft) instead. It is easier to shape, can be reworked, and doesn't snap. |
mrinku | 28 Nov 2013 4:01 p.m. PST |
Cool. I suspected that was the method. Must progress my own (far more modest) projects. Been distracted by too many new figures lately (been a great year for plastic). |
Colonel O Truth | 28 Feb 2015 3:03 p.m. PST |
It has been a VERY long time, but I'm back on this project…
Handrails and bulkheads have been added. Much more to come. Rivet count is up to 10,671… More on the blog. link Good to be back! |
