For my 2013 'Big Project' I decided on a Medieval/fantasy campaign full of petty nobles only too eager to beat the snot out of each other for cash and prizes. After doing a bit of research however I realized that once again history had already beaten me to it in the form of the Barony Wars in 1264-67. So I've decided to scrap the fantasy aspect (or at least massively tone it down) and make a semi-proper medieval campaign out of the thing. This however requires research. Can anyone recommend any good books on the period? |

Lots of good info here battleoflewes.blogspot.co.uk with various source books given. My blog link is less specific, covering much of the 13th century. You might find some of the links helpful including a link to Blaauw's 'Barons' War'. This is an old book and not necessarily reliable but it is pretty detailed and available online link More modern books: Sadler's "The Second Barons' War" is very focussed on the military side (as to be expeced from a Pen and Sword publication). I've had it a while but have only flicked through as by the time I bought it my attention had been diverted to other periods. Maddicott's "Simon de Montfort" is okay but covers his whole life and is more focussed on the politics rathers than the battles. Morris's "A Great and Terrible King" is about Edward I. Again it covers his whole life and politics is the focus but worth a read. |

Sadler's was a bit boring. Not bad, but brief and a bit boring. A good resoruce for the specific battles. Happy New Year! |
