I'm scratchbuilding a basswood PBY Catalina in 1/56th scale which I prefer over 1/48th scale for my 28mm games. You can watch the progress here:

That's very impressive. I might be willing to modify a kit but not start from scratch from a couple of blocks of wood.

I always smile when I see a picture of one on the water. I have a great uncle who flew one and he always mentioned how they leaked like sieves.
