Has anyone here done any experimenting with 2MM or 3MM figures and the 1:1200 scale ships? If so, how do they look together, creditable?

3mm figures are 1:600 so they are way too big with 1:1200 no matter how much you want to fudge with the scale.. 2mm figures are around 1:900, if you can cut them off the bases that they were molded with, it might be OK with a 1:1200 ship.

Bit of a matter of taste

As TF58 said 2mm is about 1/900th so significantly bigger in scale.

Personally I'd say that 3mm (1/600th) figures were too big to go with 1/1200th, but I'd use 1/600th aircraft with 1/1200th ships quite happily (for 20th century).

I actually bought my 2mm figures to use as troops for amphibious operations with my Napoleonic or ACW 1/1200th and 1/1800th Victorian naval.

Cheers

2mm will work with 1/1200 or 1/600 ships with some immagination. Can't see the point in using them as deck crew though and few models would have space for that anyway – with the possible exception of ancient galleys.

What do you have in mind? Play a combined land-sea combat or enhance your harbour scenery?

In the first case take what suits you or what you have at hand. Cardboard counters will do …

If you want to use the figures for your harbour or ships be careful. Everything that looks out of scale will spoil the work you have spent. In scale people just look like "pimples". Langton has rowing boats with seamen in them … pimples!

A good link that will give you an impression about 1/1200 buildings and 2mm miniatures is: link select "1/1200th buildings (3)" on the left side.

You see probably we both have mad the same reflections …

I did use some 2mm ancient blocks from Irregular, as "marine" legionaries for H&R 1/1200 galleys. The blocks of troops fit perfectly on the deck of the ships, and the result was very nice. Pardon, I have no photos because I sold all my ancient fleets.

You are looking at 2mm being 25% oversized without the bases. You could of course use Portsmouth ships which are 1/900th

Thanks Aquarius, that was a good link. That gentleman actually thought Langton's buildings and his Irregular 2MM Mexican troops were spot on. The photos look OK. I'm just not sure I could paint something that small.
