My lovely wife gave me the Alamo from Blue Moon for Christmas. link This is a 15/18mm kit. It consists of 43 sections, some of which are multiple parts (with detachable roofs). It is a giant set and will take up large sections of even the most huge game table. I will admit this is a first impression review, but this kit makes a GREAT first impression. The parts were well wrapped in newspaper and filled the enormous box completely. I carefully unpacked it laying out the parts. These took up the better part of two table tops. The castings are crisp and have little flash. The walls are detailed both inside and out. Parts of the walls are textured to be plastered, other areas show adobe bricks and in some places there are reeds. There is rubble at the base on the inside of the walls. The gun platforms and their ramps are textured as wood planking and is very nicely done. All the roofs are detachable so you can stack troops inside as well as on top. I haven't started cleaning mine yet but I expect it to prep easily and paint up into an exceptional model. OK, the price isn't trivial and unless you intend on using it alot it probably isn't a good gaming investment. However if you are doing 15mm TWI or any number of other actions with defended missions I can't recommend it highly enough. I'll be using mine for Victorian Science Fiction as well as historical gaming. Terry |

I have one also and it is absolutely beautiful. It isn't cheap but the sheer amount of time & effort required to make the master and cast the pieces certainly shows in the finished product. No regrets in purchasing it! |

Cloudy have you painted yours yet? I'm wondering what colors you used for the various materials of which the original was composed. Before I was able to look at the kit itself I figured I could just spray the kit a single color and weather it. However the level of detail is such that although a basic coat of adobe color will be the start there are a lot of details that should be added. I'm thinking that if I feel really up to it painting the interior walls of the church would be a tremendous challenge but really add to the model. |

Tsofian, I have not painted it yet but I would highly recommend "The Illustrated Alamo 1836 A Photographic Journey" by Mark Lemon for inspiration. The model appears to be a copy of his Alamo. |

I would also note that the author of the book that I mentioned did quite a bit of research on the Alamo and said book is filled with color photos of his "definitive" Alamo model. It looks great! |

Is the Blue Moon Alamo set scaled to fit their larger sized (18mm) figures? Or, is it the smaller size that is usually found for 15mm buildings by other makers? |
