Thank you.

Stug III G. Not sure if they had Schurzen at that point though.

And would it be characterized as "late" G?

The Stug with Schurzen and a 75mm L48 gun.

Possible some Fs laying around too.

The Gs would have been "earlies" and could have smoke grenade launchers on the sides of the superstructure (discontinued May '43), the machine-gun shield, and could have skirt armor as well (introduced June '43, and Spielberger mentions specifically these were ready for StuGs for the Kursk offensive). To be accurate they shouldn't have the shot deflector in front of the commander's cupola, thouth that might be a tough modification (introduced Oct '43)

Damon.

Also ALL StuGs at Kursk would have the block style mantlet, as the tapered "saukopf" mantlet wasn't introduced till November '43.

No. As above, all box mantlet Gs and the odd F.

I swear I have seen some reference to a sprinkling of older StuGs floating around as well. Any truth? Perhaps towards the rear? Police duties?

It is plausible but I havn't seen any pictures. The Stats for them have been included in Battlegroup Kursk which backs up that theory.

The dead certs are the Stug 3 G with or without skirts with the earlier style mantle.

The F types with the long barrel.

According to my favorite Kursk resource there were actually a lot a varients at Kursk including some remaining short Bs, Es and Fs as well as F8s and early Gs. The sire has excellent raw data from the US KOSAVE study on actual numbers of Stugs in each unit, day by day too. There were 10 StuHs too (9 of them in 11th Panzer's attached stug battalion).

If I had to guess, the newer Gs would be in the Stug brigades attached to the LSSAH an DR SS PzGd divsions and the 2 battions attached to SS T and GD PzGd divsions, while the other Stug battalions attached to 6th and 11th Pz. and 106th infantry div probably had a mix of older versions.
