Hi all,
Noob questions, haven't used Little Big Man transfers before.

1. When cutting them out, do you need to exactly cut the decals to fit or are the shield transfers pre-cut to fit on the transfer sheet? Some decals have the actual printed area pre-scored/cut so it just peels off from the background sheet, while others you need to use a sharp knife or scissors to precisely cut them off the sheet. Not sure which they are based on the instructions.

2. Do you need to use any decal fixer?

3. Apply gloss coat after applied or before? Some TMP threads mention doing both methods.

Other tips appreciated! Thanks!!

Trim decal to the edge. The sheet is one large piece of film. Paint the shield a gloss white are the decal of the shield is transparent. I seal my shields with future floor wax. After the future has dried overnite I spray a flat coat over the top.
Hope this is helpful

SB:

You'll have to cut them to fit the shield area.

No fixer needed (or recommended?)

A clearcoat is a good idea to protect the transfer.

Thanks!! I've been diving in to Dux Britannarium, painting up my Roman-Brits and am looking forward to seeing how the shields come out.

I used them for my OG15 greeks, what a nightmare to fix in place, the shields were convex shape. Followed all the instructions and also had to use a drop of superglue first and then press in the sides of the shield onto the glue while it dried.

Once dry I then painted in the sides of the shield and the edges of the transfer to blend them together, the transfer on the edges separated from the shield. Had to fill in the gap with superglue so I had something to paint.

Lot of work but looked good on the gaming table.

Suggestion for anyone trying to use them on OG15 greeks is the use a sharp knife and cut the face off the shield first to flatten it. The transfer will look much better.

I find the LBMS transfers MUCH easier to apply on 28mm than 15mm. To answer specific questions:

You have to cut them exactly to fit.

You can put a coat of gloss on before the transfer if you want. It helps to protect it if you put a coat of gloss on afterwards.

For domed shields you need to cut the transfer like an asterisk (not all the way to the centre) so the transfer segments will lie flat and slightly overlap
