Ascent, I don't follow that last comment. I don't feel I'm being abused on all forums. Even this topic on TMP isn't abusive. I do feel that company forums are much less civil than generic forums. I visit several generic gaming forums and only one company specific forum (Reaper). Maybe I want a perfect world, but it cheeses me off we can't discuss things online without breaking out the flamethrowers.

Okay, seriously, people need to stop defending the "slobs, tools, and average gamers". They are MY slobs, tools, and average gamers in my original post, whom I call many worse names to their faces, heap abuse on them with a shovel, get the same treatment in return, laugh, drink beer, and would charge into a burning building without hesitation to save them. Sorry that relationship slipped into the topic. From now on I'll refer to them as my Droogies (Clockwork Orange reference) so there will no longer be a need to treat me like some kind of rampaging maniac and them as defenseless children.

"Really? REALLY?!? You are going to make the claim that Mantic is one of like 3 companies to ever ship their stuff on time? Wow. That's pretty sad. Between a friend and I, we have purchased at least 12 different KS products, from 12 different companies, and ALL of them have shown up on time (or early).

After reading through this entire post, the only hostility I felt was from you, Judge. Now, admittedly, reading the written word and inferring tone of voice can sometimes be difficult. But, the tone I was "hearing" was defensive in nature. Assuming Warwick13 is correct and you "followed" him to this forum topic to defend Mantic does seem a little fanatical to me."

I never said only 3 Kickstarters have delivered on time, nor did I make a specific example of the twelve you've backed. Now, I was speaking generally about gaming ones, but perhaps I should have been more specific and mentioned the CNN article too. But, here's some recent high profile examples that haven't even shipped yet along with their original due dates.

Ogre – Nov 2012
Sedition Wars – Nov 2012
Red Box Games – Oct 2012 (n.b. a few people have gotten some items)
Dreamforge Games – Oct 2012

Heck, even little tiny Kickstarters like Savage Outfitters had a due date of Nov 2012 and isn't done yet.

On the other hand, Dreadball has an estimated date of Dec 2012 and Jan 2013, and every single one due Dec and Jan have all been shipped as of last week. To me, that means on time (and for hundreds of backers who were expecting Jan, early).

I only "followed" Warwick because someone posted a link to this TMP post on Dakka, who read Warwick's post and took it at his word as apparently many here are doing. I absolutely did come here to defend Mantic and _especially_ the other posters on the Mantic forums. As others have pointed out, you can read the thread in question and see the disconnect between what was posted/said and what has been claimed by Warwick here.

Now, let me be clear. I am not a paid Mantic spokesman – hell for years I ignored them as a GW clone. I only recently became a fan due to Kings of War which has now become my mass battle game of choice.

I also personally disagree with retail getting copies before some backers. But Mantic has been transparent about pretty much everything. I also understand the realities of contractual deadlines to distributors who are expecting copies to send to their lifeblood – retail stores – for the biggest shopping season of the year. And I also find it REALLY hard to get mad at a company who has shipped all Dec 2012/Jan 2013 pledges IN DECEMBER 2012.

Here's a couple links where Mantic has been very transparent about what's going on:

Nov 9 – link
"But we want to be totally honest, although your copy will be in the post positively bursting with miniatures goodness and the next three months releases, there is a (small) chance that distributors will ship quickly and you may see the game hit the shelves of some retailers. However, yours will be packed full of exclusive goodies and early rewards "

Nov 23 – link
"The next piece of exciting news is that we saved enough copies of the game to ship all of the Kickstarter Pledges scheduled for January ahead of Christmas. They will now ship at the same time as everyone else's Kickstarter rewards. Just to keep you informed we will be shipping out distributor orders next week as well, so if any are super quick they may hit shelves next Saturday – but they should be arriving at the same time as yours the following week – though obviously without the MVPs and the other goodies you'll all have in your first shipment! We needed to get the trade orders sent in parallel if they were to get into the retail outlets for Christmas – we think this will bring lots more people into the game"

Nov 30 – link – shipping begins

Dec 14 – link – everything has shipped

---------------

Anyway, here's the TL;DR version for anyone perusing this thread:

Mantic shipped Kickstarter Dreadballs as promised, with all the extras that retail doesn't get, to it's backers. Oh, and the Mantic Forums are full of nice people. :)

Warwick, I've looked through the Mantic forum thread and didn't see any abuse or name calling directed towards you. From your comments on there it seems to me that the people you should be upset with are your fellow gamers. They seem to be the only ones that are verbally abusing you. You talk about receiving "ridicule and distress", and being the "local Dreadball joke". None of that was caused by the people posting on the forum. A typical comment directed towards you on the Mantic forum was "Be patient, relax and don't take things personally." I think many of us here would echo that.

Judge Doug = Mantic Sock Puppet. FACT.

Matt L18 Dec 2012 4:31 p.m. PST

I got my copy of Dreadball in the mail yesterday, others here in New England are getting their copies today.

It looks like for the vast majority of Kickstarter customers, they'll get their copy of the game by Dec 25th.

The Kickstarter version of the game, unlike the retail version, has a great deal of extra components, many of which are unavailable at retail for the next month or two.

It is frustrating to see it in stores and not in our hands, but it's also fun to have all the extras.

There are plenty more forums that you can't whisper a word against the powers above or be attacked by eager fans. Not enforcment from the company, just the fans who can't handle the idea of a different point of view… GUess I'll stick here on TMP.

"Baldrick, have you no idea of what irony is?"

"Yes, it's like goldy and bronzy only it's made out of iron."

evilcartoonist18 Dec 2012 6:20 p.m. PST

Judge Doug is a Mantic sock puppet?! *GASP*

If it's "fact," I'd like to see your proof with cited sources.

I'm not sure what to say… the Mantic forum is positively friendly compared to many I've seen, so I'm struggling to associate the OP's post with what I read on the other forum.

<shrug> each to their own interpretation I guess… and I thought Mantic handled the communications pretty well compared to some others.

Warwick1318 Dec 2012 6:53 p.m. PST

Munster, I'm not sure what to compare the Mantic forum to, as I don't go to forums where ridicule is an accepted post. They only have three forum rules. 1.Don't do anything here you wouldn't do in public. 2.Remember there are many people of different ages and backgrounds reading these forums. Please remain polite.
Have you read the topic lately? Okay, I'm sure there are biker forums and quilting forums that use worse language and insults, but I'm actually amazed that Mantic is silently letting this go by. Don't kids read these forums? My son wants to and I'm just saying no way. At first I found the remarks kind of funny. Now it's disturbing.
I get I'm turning into an old man; complain about retailers getting it before pledgers, complain about the forums. Just surprising a company that wants to put on a friendly face is doing a fairly bad job of being friendly.

Warwick1318 Dec 2012 7:01 p.m. PST

Their third rule is don't call Games Workshop the Evil Empire. I'm not kidding.

Knock it on the head Warwick – you went in guns blazing, and were shot down in a very civilised fashion, all things considered.

This is the Internet, all the PROOF that's needed. Re-read all his posts and it is clear that only a Mantic insider could know all the waffle he cites therein.

evilcartoonist19 Dec 2012 9:00 a.m. PST

Ah, I see – that is what is called an assumption.

jeeves25 Dec 2012 11:08 p.m. PST

Good enough reason to never buy mantic, i'd say.
