Hi All,

One of the first board wargames I ever had was SPI's War of the Ring.Having bought a battered box of it off E-bay I wondered if I could transfer it to Google Sketchup to make a 3D electronic version. Here is the result.

The land can be zoomed in and out, rotated and the game pieces can be moved.

Has anyone else used Sketchup for wargaming purposes?

Marvelous. It must have been a lot of work. Great for people who want to play the board game, or to use it to make a campaign and then game out each battle on table top.

Wow, that's great! I'm guessing that you could only use it for personal use because of the published rules and such, right? Really nice work, though. I'd like to play it!

Nice. I have never heard of google sketchup before. I'll have to go check it out.

Seeing that made me wish for someone to print a Middle Earth map to use in Call Of Arms' game Wizard Kings.

Pretty cool. I've never heard of that Goggle application before.

Wizard Kings is Columbia Games, no?

altfritz you are right.
Got them confused all the time when working for Chessex (COL vs COA) and they both make great board games. Thanks for the correction.

Wow. What a nice concept for Sketchup. It's quite easy to do. I was able to whip up a small campaign map in just a few minutes. Just copy a 12" polygon and go to town. Speaking of towns, it will be easy to show buildings, without any effort at all.

Thanks Guys,

Google Sketchup is fantastic tool.I really enjoyed doing the map. Took it at a region at a time. I'm not doing this except as a personal thing. I think that it can be used for campaign maps very well. I have also used it for city maps, but that is an ongoing process.

I live in sketchup. I guess I technically use it for gaming purposes. All our laser cut stuff is designed in sketchup.
