"Umm, you're watching a cartoon about a girls high school tankery team.

So what we are discusing here is really all about School Shooting's!

Yes I thought as much!

We are some really Sick Bastards to be talking about things like this!

Oh sorry my Moral upper class side came out for a few seconds there!

Maybe if they added stab to there guns they could hit something.

Remember the other side is armed, mostly with better weapons.

Lion in the Stars.

Point taken, and of course I suspend my disbelief while watching GuP :).

rvandusen Supporting Member of TMP12 Jan 2013 12:09 p.m. PST

I hope in one of the last two episodes Rabbit Team manages to knock out a tank. They came close against Saunders and Pravda, but no cigar.

14Bore Supporting Member of TMP12 Jan 2013 12:35 p.m. PST

You know I wonder if at least one of the great WWII tank commanders had a Hello Kitty pillow in their tank :)

Lion in the Stars12 Jan 2013 4:25 p.m. PST

Not sure about the WW2 tank commanders, but I'd bet some modern TCs do!

A thought occurred to me to turn my computer game Close Combat Russian Front into Girls und Panzer. Now I can't have all the correct armored vehicles but could get close. Would a Stug III, IV Panzer, T-38, and a Sherman have a chance against Pravda and a bunch of late war Russian vehicles? Or I could have a go against Sanders and all Shermans. I might try.

Before people get carried away with "Japan!

I can honestly say that animation (major studio productions notwithstanding) is still mainly considered kids' stuff. There is shockingly little anime on television, and most of it is unapologetically meant for children. The only adults who really get into it (referred to as otaku) are usually perceived by the media as overweight, unwashed weirdos who are probably child molesters. Sound familiar? You're bound to spend just as much time hiding your Trigun DVDs from company here as you would anywhere else.

"I just have to watch the series to see what other team to build. Saunders University High with their Shermans might be a good match as they can mix it up while still being vulnerable if they get too cocky. The Italians with the mix of P40, L3/33 and Semovente 75/18 might be too easy to knock about."

The GuP manga is above.

The Cracked article on Japan is pretty funny. I wouldn't mind visiting Japan someday for the experience, but have no desire to live there. I somewhat understand the author's plight about his inability to be accepted fully as Japanese as I am married to a lovely Filipina. I have been accepted into her family and am treated like royalty when we travel to the Philippines, but I could live there 30 years and become fluent in Visayan and Tagalog but will always be considered a 'Kano'. but I don't mind in the least.

I heard that one of the more "realistic, historically accurate and less gamey sets of rules" is making the army book for these forces.

That's interesting. I'm hoping that someone will produce some tank commander figures. Just call them Panzer Girls or something to avoid copyright issues. I would like them either in 20mm or 15mm. It's the only time I would bother to paint eyes on a figure that small.

This song puts me in a good mood. YouTube link

Lion in the Stars09 Feb 2013 5:39 a.m. PST

@RVandusen: 20mm looks like a good scale, since it seems you can find everything needed including the Type 10 of the coach.

I really don't want to start another scale, but I can't find the Type 10 in 15mm anywhere!

spontoon09 Feb 2013 12:04 p.m. PST

So, which kids get stuck with the FT-17's and Matilda I?

rvandusen Supporting Member of TMP09 Feb 2013 4:58 p.m. PST

Spontoon,

The FT-17 and Matilda 1 are for elementary Panzerfahren teams. Maybe they have a Little League?

Does it seem like the girls are getting bustier? Or maybe they are portraying more non-asians?

I'm looking forward to episodes 11 and 12. If we're lucky there will be a Season 2 and possibly a movie.

I've seen rumors to season 2 in positive and negitive. But popularity can be a good motivator. PANZER VOR!

"Eeeeek!!"

Translated into, "Oh my Lady Gaga I am going to feel a lot of pain in just a moment!"

I am sitting there shaking my head at some of their maneuvers… but still an awesome episode!!

Wow! Episode 11 was excellent! Can't wait until next week.

14Bore Supporting Member of TMP20 Mar 2013 12:40 p.m. PST

Watched it but my Japanese is er, a bit nonexistent. Does it come in English captions? I've been watching it on Crunchyroll and it's not on there yet. Can't wait for the finale.

Lion in the Stars20 Mar 2013 1:53 p.m. PST

Ok, so who wants to go in with some 15mm or 20mm Japanese schoolgirls for tank crew?

Starting to think that I'm going to have to start a Eureka 300 Club proposal.

I'm game for figures.

rvandusen Supporting Member of TMP21 Mar 2013 6:14 a.m. PST

Lion, I am very tempted by this. Especially in 20mm since you can give them more personality. Half figures to put in hatches would be good enough, but ideally what kind of proper GuP game could you have without Yukari going on recce and Miho rescuing Rabbit Team?

Of course, I would take 15mm.

Guthroth21 Mar 2013 6:18 a.m. PST

Rather strangely I find this idea appealing, and I'd also be interested in the 15mm versions.

Lion in the Stars21 Mar 2013 1:17 p.m. PST

Yeah, but we'd need to get AB or Meier to sculpt them… Ah, what the heck.

Submitted, but you'd need an awful lot of buyers to make it work.

14Bore Supporting Member of TMP21 Mar 2013 2:33 p.m. PST

I might get them just for show

Ethanjt2121 Mar 2013 4:02 p.m. PST

This would be a really fun scenario to do, make it short (like 1-2 hrs per game) and play best 2 out of 3. I would buy the stuff and do it.

badger2221 Mar 2013 5:54 p.m. PST

Yes it would be a great thing to game, and a good reason to collect minis you mght not otherwide get.

Capt John Miller21 Mar 2013 7:25 p.m. PST

I would like to point out that the heroines of the story must have incredibly lucky shots all the time or their rounds have depleted uranium in them to take out those heavier tanks. That big surprise in th elast episode should have been ruled as "Illegal" since only a few existed and how many of them saw combat?

I am just sayin'…

rvandusen Supporting Member of TMP22 Mar 2013 5:08 a.m. PST

The heroines are certainly the greatest tank aces in anime history. The show is consistent though. Notice that almost all of the tank kills are made by the most effective vehicles; the Panzer IV, Stug, and Hetzer. Also the Hetzer gets several shots into the flanks and rear of the Black Forest panzers so it is not impossible to penetrate with a long 75mm. This also causes confusion in the Black Forest team and some vehicles turn their flanks toward the tanks on the hill and the Panzer IV and Stug then score more hits.

On the other hand, the M-3, Char B, and Type 89 either can't penetrate at any range or can't hit anything. I'm hoping the
Rabbit Team manage to knock out a vehicle at some point.

Capt John Miller22 Mar 2013 6:05 a.m. PST

"On the other hand, the M-3, Char B, and Type 89 either can't penetrate at any range or can't hit anything. I'm hoping the Rabbit Team manage to knock out a vehicle at some point."

Kudos to the crew of the Char B… they embodied the "They shall not pass." philosophy. Rolled newspaper about their head when self preservation is not kicking in when it definitely should.

14Bore Supporting Member of TMP22 Mar 2013 4:19 p.m. PST

How are they going to knock out the Maus?

rvandusen Supporting Member of TMP22 Mar 2013 6:14 p.m. PST

Good question. Maybe they'll just avoid it until it breaks down? I suppose a track shot might immobilize it.

I agree that the crew of the Char B have performed well in both there battles.

Your first GuP figure from Sanders

Lion in the Stars24 Mar 2013 1:32 p.m. PST

I suppose you could play GuP in 28mm, but do they make all the different tanks you'd need?
