Hello
I was just wondering if anyone has sought to adapt Might and Reason for ECW or other 17th century wars.

I have nearly completed my ECW armies and now need to find a set of rules. I am not all that keen on those that I have seen so far. I have enjoyed M and R very much for WSS and SYW, so I am just wondering whether it couldn't be used for ECW with a few tweaks.
Regards

How do the pike units work in the GNW scenarios – perhaps you could tweak of those?

I don't know about Might & Reason, but we used Maurice from the same author for ECW and it worked very well.

A while back there were reports that Mustafa and/or someone else knowledgable was doing such a conversion. I have not heard anything in many months, and Mustafa has moved on to Maurice.

Thank you for your responses.

I can't see anything specific about pikes in the Sun King M and R module or the GNW scenarios. I am assuming that, as M and R is a brigade level game, the pike element is just subsumed within the overall unit strength.

I will have a look at Impetus, thanks for the suggestion.

I have a copy of Maurice but haven't read it yet. I understand that it is battalion based, so it might be the preferable starting point for an adaption, although I would prefer to work from M and R because I am familiar with it and can only keep so many rule sets in my head. Thanks for the suggestion.

Dexter, can I ask what modifications you made to Maurice to suit ECW?

We didn't really make many mods at all.
We said musketry for mixed P&S battalia would only hit on 5,6 instead of 4,5,6, to reflect the fact that there were few muskets.
We applied the Pike special rules when infantry were charged frontally by cavalry
We treated Dragoons as irregular infantry who move at mounted speed.
And that's it – we gave national characteristics Cavaliers and Maison du Roi to the Royalists, Clerics and Steady Lads to Parliament.
It gave a very good game

Thank you Dexter.

I will read Maurice and try a game with your modifications.
