Hello,

I am building the hosts which fought at Bosworth Field in 28mm using the Perry plastics. I was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas as the livery colours ( if any ) that I could use to paint up the the French pikemen that travelled and fought with Henry Tudor?

Your comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Richard

The French pikemen (we don't actually KNOW that they were pikemen, but it is likely that they were) were mercenaries so would not as a matter of course wear livery, since they were not subject to a "livery and mauntenance" type contract with any lord. However, it is possible that the mercenary leader directed his men to wear specific colours.

I have done a little research and found a plate in a reference book of mine which refers to French troops of the late 15th cent. wearing black clothes with the livery colours of the town with the White cross. I think I an going to go for this idea. As for the livery colours I will have a think. They should look quite striking. As a professional outfit on campaign several of them will have slightly different coloured garments, but you get the gist of it. Thanks for the assistance.
