Last week I made my first foray into the real of historical reenactment, by viewing that of the Battle of San Pasqual, Dec. 6, 1846 – a minor engagement in the Mexican-American War. You can see a couple of videos I took of the action on my blog at: diggershome.blogspot.com
One question I was left with was how might this engagement be wargamed, and what rules would be suitable? What about a adapted Liberators? And what about figs either 15mm or 25mm for both the US and Californios? Suggestions welcome.

This is one of my favorite battles and I have had a start/stop project going on for this in 15mm. Old Glory 15s has Mexican Irregular Lancers, which look like Californios to me. Additionally, you can use Mexican Presidials, either painted as Presidials in their uniform or in civilian garb colors…QRF also has Mexican Irregular cavalry. I plan to order some of these for some pose/sculpt diversity. For the US, OG also has MexAm American dragoons and mounted volunteers. For rules, I am thinking of LaSalle, Neil Thomas rules or something else…haven't got that far!

Due to a heavy fog in the valley two d6 will be rolled at the begging of each turn. The result will be the visibility for that game turn.

Thanks so much for the OB and also the recommendations for figs. I feel a project coming on for 2013. Would love to refight this as well as Mule Hill. I could possibly even do a hypothetical in which landing parties from the Cyane meet with stiff opposition.
