This morning I received an e-mail from Rotten Lead Publishing to let me know that Gruntz Version 1.1 is now available from War Games Vault. I have to note that the PDF of Gruntz Version 1.1 was at no cost to me as I had purchased the original PDF version of Gruntz from War Games Vault. It is really good of Rotten Lead Publishing to give a free update PDF of Gruntz Version 1.1 at no cost to everyone who purchased the original version of Grunt 15 mm science fiction rules. Additionally Gruntz Version 1.1 is available both as a downloadable PDFs, a print version PDF & an actual printed rulebook. After looking over the rule for Gruntz Version 1.1 I believe the delay for release was that bad. In my personal opinion it was well worth the extra time to get the Gruntz Version 1.1 rules right. The rules are soundly written with proven game mechanics that had been refined and streamlined for easier game play. This time the background section is a lot larger with greater detail for the official background, but the rules do not force play using this background. Many new unit types have been added and the specialist had been broken into infantry specialist vehicle specials. The original game was a good gaming system, but version 1.1 should prove to be an exceptional game system. |

Downloaded mine and looks very good. Played a demo with Robin at Warfare last year and really enjoyed the simplicity of the system. Makes for some good fast games and allowas you to use mecha. I am looking forward to trying this update. |

I believe that the Printed Rule Book is All Ready Available for Purchase at War Games Vault. After looking through the PDF I have decided I Need to Pick up a copy of the Actual Physical Rule Book. |

This is a complete game, or an errata/addendum? |

This is a complete game, or an errata/addendum? It's a complete game. You don't need any previous rule books. |

Picked up the PDF and put the print copy on my Christmas list. Are there blank asset sheets available for this game? I know there is a troop generator in the works, but until then blank sheets would be helpful. -Eli |

That's odd. I didn't get notified by the Vault but I did get an email from the maker telling me about it and the Vault did have the updated version. |

My notice from the Vault ended up in my spam filter, so take a look there. |

The Wargames vault message is a mystery to me, because some people received it and others thought it came direct from me rather than the wargames vault. I did send it via the vault but it may be that when originally registering with them you said no to emails. If you did tick some sort of exclusion option it may have stopped the email being sent. As also committed above, it may have also just got blocked in SPAM. However if you did buy the v1 and can still remember and access your account details on the wargames vault you should just be able to download it from your "My Library" section. Yes it is also now a print copy version which is printed in the US and available from the Wargames Vault. For rest of world shippers I know that they send it to the UK via internal shipping, so the UK and European shipping costs are closer to what you would pay from within the UK.

There are more typos and omissions than I would have liked in an updated version of the rules, and I still think the points cost for Shooting skill do not scale steeply enough, but beyond all that, it looks like it is going to be just that much better than v1, and Im looking forward to trying it soon! |

because some people received it and others thought it came direct from me rather than the wargames vault. My e-mail looked like it came from you rather than Wargames Vault. |

Are there any updates to the rules mechanisms at all? I had been hoping for a bit more crunch than 1.0. But from my reading of the fluff about this update it seems focused in other areas? Any feedback from people actually playing the new edition? |
Rottenlead | 07 Dec 2012 8:51 a.m. PST |
@Collins355. Yes there is a lot of adjusted content with better detail, although it is a personal opinion given that I put it together myself. The main rules regarding assault are adjusted to reflect player feedback and a lot of new unit types are covered, like dropships that can carry vehicles, fighters, field artillery and other clarification between specialist support units that are robotic. There are some people playing the new edition but the hard copies are mostly still in transit to people because the order only got approved 10 days ago. Hopefully people will have time to read, digest and play/feedback later this Month when the books are delivered. |
