The White Rock Gamers of British Columbia, Canada, hosted the Battle of Borodino last Saturday November 22, 2012. There were gamers from the North Shore Group and The Trumpeter club in attendance. Most of the 5900+ 25/28mm figures were supplied by the White Rock Gamers, with some coming from the North Shore Group. We set the table up with terrain on a 27 foot table Friday night and started laying out figures Saturday morning at 8:30. The first turn started approx. 10:30 am and we finished approx. 8:00 pm with a one hour lunch. Rule set used was Shako 2 and we managed to play 15 turns of the game which had 22 scheduled. After much see saw action it was determined to be a draw. Objectives were the redoubts and villages, plus who had the most divisions lost. At the final count The French occupied Borodino, The village of Semeyonovskyoe and reboubt. The Russians held the Fleches, Utitisa and the mound. The Great Redoubt was in contention. The French had lost more divisions. Personally I managed to destroy two small French light cavalry divisions on our right flank. I was Russian, playing the role of Barclay de Tolly and Russian right flank cavalry commander, Platov and Uvarov. The scenario and map were created by Chris Leach who co-wrote the Shako 2 rules. The French started off table, with many Russian divisions the same. Movement of divisions off table was by one square foot increments. Lateral movement was maximum of 4 squares, movement towards or back from the table was maximum 2 squares. No division was allowed to pass through another. Once on the table a division cannot exit. A great time was had by all with much laughter and fun. link |

Imagination is unlimited, and your post is proof positive. Wonderful, and though you were likely exhausted at the end game, you must have been satisfied. A game that the 2 clubs will relive for years to come. |

Excellent looking game, great for the grand action and a dueling club atmosphere.. with miniatures at two "paces". Congrats on your success! The foot square "zonal" movement ability mentioned we have used in our club games since the early 1980's. Used on and off the tabletop for reserves and quick movement of the rear area formations. Also functions as a form of hidden movement, scouting, flanking movements etc. WR Our block movement system described: link |

Nice looking game. Our group The League of Gentlemen Wargamers also refought Borodino last weekend and you can see some pics of our attempt at this link. link For ease of movement and to give good depth to the battle we fought the game over four 12x6 tables making the battle 24x12 in total size. I had wanted to produce a larger layout but lack of tables reduced what we could put on. |

Thanks Gents. There is a balcony at one end of our table for the aerial shots, too bad I can't take them for the whole table. It was a great game lots of fun. We are doing the same game in 15mm at the end of March. Stay posted. |
