Why do priests wear black? Are they secretly devil worshippers? I think it is to highlight his "monkish" proclivities now that he is a Jedi. Damon. |
| Zagloba | 26 Nov 2012 5:24 p.m. PST |
He starts out in white, wears grey in ESB, then black in RotJ. I assumed it was because of how close he was to turning to the dark side, with the color change showing the progression. I would guess in Ep 7 he'd wear brown. Rich |

The idea that black is evildoes not take many factors into consideration. Did not the Storm troopers wear white? I always thought tans and browns were the color associated with the rebellion. harsh and stark colors for the Empire. |

Yep, they beat me to it. Just reversing the color roles, in a simplistic manner, from the old western days, where the good guys wore white hats, and the bad guys wore black. |

Agree with Zagloba. Luke has a steady transition to the dark side – white/then tan/then black. His ESB uniform has a lot of colour variation due to lighting – sometimes tan, sometimes grey, sometimes darn near blue. An obvious memory, but in ROTJ, the final scene of Luke arguing with Vader has Luke's own face half-shrouded. He's turning
then finally his anger wins over the fear and he lays out the smack down on Vader. He regains control over the anger and reigns himself in just in time to get electrocuted by Palpatine. I guess Yoda neglected to instruct Luke in the oft-used Ep1-2-3 lightsabre-to-focus-lightning trick. Forgetful in old age he was. |

Weeeellll – Luke is supposed to be the first of the new force users, able to use both the light side and the dark side {like duck tape ;-)} ALso, take a look at the other Jedi masters in Ep. 1>3, fair bit of dark clothing there too. |

It seemed from the originalfilms that the black outfit was a "Jedi uniform", and the brown robes Ben wore were just local Tatooine hobo clothes, since he was living incognito. Then along come the prequels, and no, the brown robes with baggy sleeves to catch on things in a fight are apparently the uniform, and no-one in the last 20 years thought "that guy looks just like a Jedi – if I turn him in there'll be a reward!". |

If there's a bright center to the universe, Luke grew up on the planet that it's farthest from. As a rebellious teen, I'm sure he listened to a lot of Trent Reznor. |
