Can someone help me. Soviets and Russians have LOTS of camouflage pattern, but what pattern was used for regular infantry in 1980-1900 era in Soviet Army? I want to paint late Cold War Soviet army, but confused with pattern. |

cracking resourse lobsterback! I have only tried three of those, my fav and easiest to do is the two colour woodland pattern on 20mm figs. Concord books have a useful colour guide for eastern block Germans also.
cheers Matt |

No you need a nice shade of brown khaki (odd green shade to taste) otherwise you have VDV. |

KLMK would be the best bet as it's a camo that was widely distributed. It began to be produced in 1960 but wasn't widely distributed until the mid to late 70's.
A darker pattern was distributed in 1975 looking like it was printed on burlap material. This was given to Spetnaz and VDV and widely used in Afghanistan:
Another camo, Soviet Woodland pattern began to show up in 1982.
Not widely distributed it was used by Spetznaz and some VDV units. If your looking for references Camopedia.org is great, but your best would be to pick up the book Camouflage Uniforms of the Soviet Union and Russia 1937 to present, by Dennis Desmond published by Schiffer. Best $50 USD I ever spent. |
