What % of your collection are boxes, blisters and other ziplock bags that haven't been touched since purchase, and what are the oldest models still in this state ?

GoneNow26 Nov 2012 4:56 a.m. PST

I don't think anything is still in the original packing. That's not to say a lot isn't still on the sprue or waiting assembly.
I would say about 20-30% of my collection is still waiting to be built. Most of that has been in that state for six months to a year. I moved six months ago, so stuff from that period was packed away for the move and hasn't been touch since.
The stuff I have gotten since the move has not only been assembled, but some has even been painted! >gasp!<

Except for one 1/1200 Napoleonic frigate all of my stuff is now painted. 30 or so figures await varnish and basing.

I only buy in very small quantities and paint them before buying more. If it sounds puritanical it's not. I discovered having cleared the lead pile that I enjoyed the hobby far more than before as it keeps it current rather than forever chasing a back-log. I recommend it. Flog your excess on ebay then use the funds to have some of the remainder painted for you.

I have a ton of stuff I got on clearance and often, back in the day, I purchased duplicates for most of the figures I had to have replacement figures when the other broke or were lost.
I would day around 30-50% as I have several project that could be considered NIB. I just picked up six boxes of Roman Plastic figures (48 each) that I am taking back to Illinois to start on while I am back there.

Probably 85-90% of my lead is still unpainted, but not a lot still in the original packaging.. I usually open up for a quick look. But I do keep discovering DBA armies I don't recall buying. Three this week alone, while looking for something else… :-(

Does 'Lots' qualify as an answer…

Less than 10% – unpainted but opened total is about twice that.

This and its fellow kits:

auction

Ten years older than I am.

Fair bit unpainted, but I think maybe three or four sets are still in their blisters

Rrobbyrobot26 Nov 2012 5:58 a.m. PST

none

jdpintex26 Nov 2012 7:41 a.m. PST

Less than 10% of my total collection.

Probably the oldest is five years or so. Projects that I never finished collecting or simply didn't start. But will someday. :)

I still have lots of Essex 15mm 100YW/WOTR figs in their original packaging, bought in 1999.

Martin Rapier26 Nov 2012 8:59 a.m. PST

Very little. In its original packaging I have:

2 x Airfix Bofors Guns
1 x pack Airfix British infantry
the 15mm Old Glory WMIK Landrovers I never quite got around to assembling
the entire Spanish Navy in 1/6000th scale.

everything else is painted or about to be.

I do have stuff I've acquired in bring & buys second hand (mainly plastic models and some 6mm AiW stuff) which need a repaint, but they aren't in their original packaging.

I have plastic kits from the 70s still in original boxes.

Mako1126 Nov 2012 11:06 a.m. PST

Most.

I'd estimate about a 1/4 to a 1/3. Some like the perry and victrix french are waiting for a few more purchases before I begin. Some WW2 are in blister and boxes because I don't have the urge to match paint and bases quite yet. The ACW are back on and a current project filling in for breaks in western painting. Scifi is always on, but lately I'm more skirmish than full on armies.
The oldest fiures/ models are some GW BFG ships and Inquistor models,
a hobby shelf broke a decade ago and I have not had the urge to repair the damage yet or finish the fleets and warbands. The truly old goes to the multipose airfix napoleonics though….I've only built one out of the 15 blister kits and have painted none.
I have a fantastic excuse though. I was deployed and only returned home recently,AND having piles of unfinished stuff should protect us all from the mayan calander reset! ;)

Jakse37526 Nov 2012 1:36 p.m. PST

The oldest. Some Julie Guthrie Fantasy blisters from the 80's still in box.

PJ Parent26 Nov 2012 7:15 p.m. PST

I have plastic GW Squats on the sprew – but that only makes them early 90's so I'm not winning this one.
