That was very handy – I am afraid I do not go the dry brush way. I did use a sepia wash but now just use my (builders') sand mix which has bits of grass and debris embedded. I do use the tufts as well as some woodlands scenic grasses.

I varnish after basing. My base edges are a mud coloured plaster mix.

Always useful to see how others go about this essential job.
