I need a hole punch that will make 1" holes in a sabot base for 1" washers. If I buy a quality punch that says it is 1", will that actually work? In other words, will it make holes that are truly 1" in diameter or is there some odd trade-secret thing that means 1" punches make 31/32" holes? |

I would have thought that 1" would cut 1", but that still might be anything from a snug to a tight fit and some filing might be needed just to open it out. It may be cheaper and more accurate to have some MDF bases cut by someone like Warbases, who do laser cutting and they could cut a 1" PLUS 1/32" just to give to that wiggle room. |

You should be able to get a spade bit for your drill for drilling 1" holes in wood. |

It can vary from one punch to another. Some measure the inner diameter and some measure the outer diameter. What material are you putting holes in and what punch are you look at using? |

Easier and probably cheaper, go, to a craft store or general hobby shop, and look for, coin holders. Assuming you are in the US, a holder made for US quarters should be perfect for 1" round bases. |

Thanks, I'm going to put 1" holes in vinyl tile; the cut piece will be glued to some magnetic sheet. The Litko stuff is nice, but not what I need. |

I cut out 1 inch circles of magnetic sheeting using a craft punch that I got at Michael's in the scrap booking section. I use them to glue to LOTR Mounted Figure bases, so I know that it ia a true 1 inch. It works just like a regular 3 hole punch. You can slide the tile into the body of the punch and then lean down on the top handle. Perfect cut every time. I think the brand name was "Recollections" or something like that. Martha Stewart also has similar punches that cost a few bucks more also at Michael's. Cost was 10 bucks but use the 40% off coupon and for 6 bucks your good to go. |

I have tried various craft punches That do actually punch out an inch diameter circle, Martha Stewart and flisker are the best. But test them on your material. They do not cut very Thick stuff. Cardboard, thin magnetic material, felt but I doubt they would cut vinyl. They are difficult to line up circle after circle because the material is inside the punch. Thanks for the pointer on the arc punch. This is what I think I need. |
