Has the future arrived in Harajuku Japan? link 1/18th so far, but who knows? No idea if they're coloured automatically or hand painted though. Anyone able to decipher the Japanese on the site linked to? |

Yeah but what if you take a 1/18th photo of a 1/5 scale thing? Do you get a 15mm version of it? That looks awesome. |

They say a 3d photo
That sounds like a 3d scanner, a tech that i think is older than 3d printers, so nothing really new. Otoh, with this tech, you can photocopy your minis! |

The customer is first 3D scanned in a process that requires them to stand still for 15 minutes. That rules out some, ahem, "couples" options, at least for now. Probably a good thing. |

I guess there might be resolution problems when you go down to small scale perhaps Pictor's? Tried a little Google translate- Our visit to you, we do the shooting by 3D scanner. In shooting, we ask Still about 15 minutes at a certain pose to our customers. Professional staff to scan all over your entire body. Taken from the material, I want to create the data to be printed. Ranging such as hair color or texture of clothes, the details of the body, do the data modifications in detail. Based on the data that was finally completed, the 3D color printer, do the output of the original figure. As it is in the form of a figure of everyone when you shot is realistic. So they colour print the figures – wow! The tricky bit seems to be tinkering about with the scanned-in model to get colour and texture looking right, which I guess is an art all by itself. The price? 21,000 Yen, approx £160.00 GBP for your first figure, discounts for bulk! |

Looks pretty cool. Be interesting to see where that leads to. |

where that leads to. Those who are looking for "not" character figures will at some point just have to find a costume shop and then learn to stand still for 15 minutes. |

Okay, so who's in favor of driving a Tiger tank into the booth to see what theat mini will look like? :) |

What about having a colour 3D printer at home and all you have to do is purchase the figures you want as a design and download. No more waiting for lead. No more import duties from the US or UK etc. No painting! "Wait there I'm short of a unit or two, I'll just print a couple more off" That could be a reality one day

Russ! TOUCHE! When we get to that point, sculptors and casters alike will be picked cleaner than a Galleon on Francis Drake's "Black Friday." Sigh
