My brother and I want to get into ACW at 28mm and are looking for a set of rules to play platoon to company level skirmish games. To kind of give you an idea of we are looking for we have both played Games Workshop games for about 20 years and started historicals about 3 years ago with Flames of War and Saga. Prefer the rules to be points based as well. When we accumulate enough figures we will try out larger divisional type rules systems but we want to start with something we can play when we each have a few dozen painted up. |

Brother Against Brother is a lot of fun, not sure if it is points based or not. |

Ganesha Games does an ACW set of rules that might suit you, I think they're called '61/65'. Mick |

Certainly "Legends of the Old West" seems to produce a decent game at platoonish size of 20-30 figs a side. Might get unwieldy when larger; but there's the Alamo rules for bigger games. |

Terrible Swift Sword by Too Fat Lardies seems ideal from what I have seen. |

Brother against Brother is a good skirmish game for someone just starting out. It's easy to learn and fun! |

I third nominate Brother against Borther for the 28mm Skirmish gaming. I have pictures of some BAB games on my blog. The nice thing about the rules is that you can really use it for most blackpowder era games. I use it for ACW and Seminole Wars. I plan on using it for AWI and Napoleonic skirmishing as well. (I also use it for WWII skirmish, but that is an unofficial variant that is available online.) David G. gamerarchitect.blogspot.com |

We've used it for FIW, and AWI with no major hiccups. Wondering how they might work for colonial actions of US Plains Wars? |

Brother Against Brother
it's potentially as versatile as TSATF. Definitely on the beer and pretzels side. I don't see it scaling up too far though; it's very much skirmish oriented. |

Mine are free, have a points system and are designed for 1:1 platoon to company level actions, I wonder if they may do for you? link |
