I have some Foundry gendarmes and am wondering about getting some Front Rank horses to add a little more variety. Has anyone done this? Issues? Size compatible? |

The late Rich Knapton did just that. I don't think he ever posted any pictures here, but it might be worth searching these boards. |

I just tried some as I have unpainted figures for both. The FR horses, both barded and unbarded have a high cantle at the rear of the saddle. Some of the Foundry Gendarmes have a long surcoat which keeps the figure from going completely into the saddle. You'd have to trim the surcoat or the cantle to make them fit. Ohter wise they are fine. The FR horses are heftier, and look like a horse they used for knights, Clydsdales, Percherones, etc. The Foundry horse look like the horse of today. Both are the same height, larger bridle and straps on the FR. A little better casting on the FR as well. FR riders are considerably larger and taller. I hope that helps? |

If you are going to do this, might I also suggest that you lose the Foundry supplied lances and get TAG heavy lances (sold seperately) for them. They are made of a much harder / 'stiffer' metal alloy and to a better design. You'll probably spend some time painting the lances (stripey), and will curse Foundry when they bend at the slightest touch and flake the paint – go TAG!. |

Thanks James. Yes, when getting the Foundry guys out to paint I realized I was going to have to do something about the wimpy lances. Thanks for the pointer to TAG. |
