Are there The Sword and The Flame rules for the U.S. Plains Wars. I was thinking I may want to start a 7th cavalry Custer collection. Thanks for any advice.

Boots and Saddles is the official one, I believe. I like the Tomahawk and the Flame which is a fan created set.

Thanks,

John

Just say "no" to Custer… do Mackenzie instead, or Davidson, or Price, or Crook, or Buell or even that "peacock" Miles.

The 4th, 6th, 9th, & 10th were much better at fighting Indians than the 7th in my not very humble opinion. I know it's heresy. Nearly everyone wants to do Little Big Horn rather than any of the other near coutnless engagements.

Besides, John Wayne did 2 Westerns based on Mackenzie: "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" loosely based on the Battle of Palo Duro Canyon & "Rio Grande" based on Mackenzie's strike into Mexico against Apache & the Kickapoo.

There's nothing wrong with doing Custer. I also agree that there are loads of other interesting engagements. Pick up Michno's Encyclopedia of Indian Wars. Great book and will show you how varied the units and tribes were. Loads of possible scenarios!

Thanks,

John

PTL1815, it's _Bugles, Boots and Saddles_. I bought a
copy 6-7 months ago.

Fast play, enjoyable game.

What Elaine said. Mackenzie did the job Custer couldn't do.

It isn't that I have anything against Custer, it's just that too many start this genre reading, researching, & gaming only the LBH that they never see the West. Not only that, but after playing LBH or Rosebud a couple of times, the figures are placed on the shelf to gather dust.

I just feel that a someone who concentrates solely on Custer & the 7th misses out on so much. It would be like an ACW gamer that only plays Gettysburg.

Just paint your troopers up as generic cav units and you can use them as any regiment that you wish.

That's what I do. Although I do have some personality figs too. I just think most gamers who dabble in this period don't research a lot outside of the LBH campaign. I love it all!
thumbs up

Thanks,

John
