im working on my ecw army for Prince Rupert and am having some trouble finding regiments that were under his command. the only one i have found is his "blew coats". I've done searching thru my various books and online, but cannot seem to find any names or the like just generic labels such as cavalry and foot etc. Am i going about this wrong looking for specifically named regiments or are the names of little consequence history wise? my other thought is that maybe those under his command went by their captains name? i should add i try to stick to fact as closely as possible when doing this kind of project. thanks for everyone's time and answers! |

MB You can of course do what you like – it's your army however, if you were to look at the OOB for Marston Moor you'll find some of the regiments under Rupert's command at that time. He did get about a bit though and fought at some of the largest battles of war so I'm surprised you are having trouble finding stuff out on line. I think he lead the attack on Bristol with the cornish regiments but I'm not totally certain on that. For example here's a start for you: link His own units were: His Lifeguard of horse, a double troop about 140 IIRC at its largest His regiment of horse about 400 I think His blue coat regiment of foot, ex Lunsford. c.500 at Naseby His red coat firelocks – I think 200 – 300 has been suggested for these. |
