This looks really cool: link But
Really? NKs invading? That's one of the things that made the original work. At the time it came out the "reds" were on the move and things were looking pretty ugly for the West. The Soviets, and their allies, were numerous and our allies were looking pretty shaky. That perception really gave something to the film and it played to those fears that my generation had at the time. But the NKs? Really? They just don't work for me. The "Believable" jump is just too much for me. Now if the movie was set in South Korea
I could see that and it would have the "scary because it *could* happen vibe". But this? Nah
The way the NKs come over is just too much deus ex machina. And that assumes that the NKs have an economy to build the transports to cross the Pacific. Sorry, it just doesn't work. The NKs are just the wrong baddies. Also, I would hate to be with those troopers in the invasion sequence!!!! Who was the moron who picked a residential district as a drop zone????? The Youthful Captain should have that idiot shot. I can just picture troopers dangling from every tree, light post, and roof for miles around! What a way to start an invasion! LOL!!! But still, it looks fun. With WWZ looking like such a bust I might have to go here to get my action. Or maybe I'll just stick with The Hobbit! |

Originally they were supposed to be Chinese not Norkers. I think the time for Red Dawn has passed, and it's relevance is no longer there. I'm going to give this one a miss
Damon. |

One cool thing though- the leader guy does have a good Patrick Swayze vibe to him. Would it have been better if they had stayed with the Cold War theme? I mean keep it in the 80's or 90's with the Soviets invading? And aimed it at the older kids like us? And maybe let the young 'uns get a nice dose of Cold War paranoria? |

I will see. While the NK premise is not plausible, I don't think the time has passed. |

The Soviet invasion of the US in the 80's wasn't plausible either. But there was something to it that allowed you to drop your disbelief and be kind of freaked out by it. I remember when it came out. I was in the 8th Grade and it really freaked out some kids in my class. I remember that we shut down Social Studies class one day to discuss the movie (and Amerika) and whether something like that could happen. I doubt this version of Red Dawn will do the same thing. But I digress. Even though it "couldn't" happen there was enough of the possibility there that made it freaky to so many folks. I think that is what this movie is missing by using the NKs. It goes from creepy to plain silly. But it should be a fun movie with lots of gaming fodder I think. I'll pick the Hobbit over it, but I'll catch Red Dawn on video at the very least. |

Ooof. Looks awful. Ridiculous premise. What made the original compelling beyond shoot 'em up was that it was within the realm of possibility, or within the realm of reason based on fears at the time. I don't think any American today fears an invasion by NK. Most of us see NK as a possible WMD threat, but that's not a widely held fear on the scale and intensity of the Cold War period. I mean, come on, Kim Jong Il is a butt of a joke (so ronery!). This just looks goofy. Could have been better if it had stuck to China as the threat. |

it was originally Chinese, but they changed it to not offend Chinese distribution. Apparently the current script talks about China being involved, and the local group being NK allies, which makes it slightly more plausible, but yeah, they caved to PC pressure. |

It's not supposed to be just North Korea but. Collection of Asian countries lead by the NK's from what I read. |

Oh, I didn't know that. China is still the big baddie but the NKs are the grunts in this area. That's cool. In fact, that is still pretty true to Red Dawn. You had the Soviets and the Cubans in that movie. Maybe that NK officer that seems to appear in the few scenes is the replacement character for the Cuban officer in the first movie. |

Ok, that makes a little more sense. I wonder if they invaded to collect their bond payments

Home Front is the name of the Novel and XBOX 360 was a story which John Milius was a consultant and the original Writer and Director of Red Dawn, plus a whole lot of bad ass movies. |
| Tgunner | 10 Nov 2012 1:32 p.m. PST |
So does this new Red Dawn movie tie into the Home Front universe? Or did Milius just use ideas from the game to flesh out the new Red Dawn universe. Just looking at what's written about Red Dawn shows that it's at least strongly influenced by Home Front. At least to me. |

I haven't seen the new Red dawn but a EMP type weapon is used in movie, book and game. And the Freak Show Nuke Camp Pendleton which really es me off. |
| Tgunner | 10 Nov 2012 2:25 p.m. PST |
Better Camp Pendleton than Ft. Riley Irish! |

I looked the original one more than 100times
No joke. The first time in highschool in frankfurt / germany. Farnkfurt airport and rheinmain AFB were/are nuclear targets. As I was in elementary school we had still " duck and cover" atom alarms. And we always made a joke in the breaks inbetween classes: " question: Imagine the russian invasion would start now? Answer: than they would be here after class! " Doesent work so well in english but gives a good feeling how it was in the 80ies living close to a military border
.. Watching "red dawn" was always fun. PS: the girl in the library is the wife of John Milius who sings the very best version of Gary owen in rough riders! YouTube link Greetings and have fun |

but yeah, they caved to PC pressure. Don't do that reactionary knee jerk. PC had feck all to do with it. They were scared of losing Chinese distribution and a lot of profit. If anything, blame the 'free market'. |
