Some very dramatic pictures of a modern conflict. Please note that some of these are not for the faint of heart.

As is always the case, its the civilians that suffer the most.

A reminder to me to be thankful for what I have here.

V. Grim stuff but the quality of the imagery can't be denied.

Almost a Spanish Civil War type of conflict. It would be interesting to note how many different forces are currently fighting over there and what their goals are.

Grim pictures indeed.

On the lighter side, sling shot artillery! (pic #41)

Tragic. My heart breaks for the civilians caught in the middle.

Isn't that basically what a PIAT is?

Notice the guy shooting the MG on the truck has his eyes closed.

Sad, grim, amazing, horrible… there are too many adjectives. Who shot the pictures, by the way? He or she has balls of steel and a real knack for photo-journalism!

I bet those 'Free Syrian Army' men have shot a fair few US troops on their probation years in Afghanistan!

Hi Tim

I think that one of the pictures of the execution/ murder really shows the dehumanization of war because you can see the shooter, the one with the head band, smiling as he shoots.

Dafydd. Depends on which of the many factions they are. The pictures do not note which units, factions they adhere to.

Some Syrians were among the "Foreign Fighters" in both Iraq and Afghanistan … Don't have a lot of pity for Syria, but it is tragic with all the lose of non-combatants … However, Civil Wars have a tendancy to be very bloody …

Different kind of beard altogether.
