My very first gaming experiences were with RPGs back in the late 70s and 80s and I haven't really played them since then apart from a brief spell in the 90s. Exploring in the loft recently my son came across my old copies of D&D [2nd] and GURPS and lets just say the geek-gene is clearly strong in our family! I've put an update on the story so far on my new blog

Three cheers for you, old man! I playing and running since 1st Ed. back in 19
never mind. And am always glad to see new players springing up. |

Great to hear. I started with the very same D&D box set that you did
a friend had gotten it as a birthday present. Fortunately, we got to start out with a group of 5 guys. |

After getting out of it back around '91 or so, last fall I dove right back in too. It was odd starting out at 1st level again, after the last campaign's character was 14th. |

That's it – you've persuaded me – I'm cracking out the Basic D&D booklet and running the level one sample dungeon in it this weekend! That's if, you know, the family are cool with that. :-) :-( :-) :-( (there should be a mood swing smiley !) |

I have been pondering starting a game with the boy, just to knock the rust off

Go for it. I have to admit I've enjoyed the whole thing a lot more than I expected to. Most of my gaming is miniature based and mainly historical so this has been a whole 'new' [and old] experience |
