Here's a link to a new Trek modeling forum.

allscaletrek.com/index.php

Caters for many scales, starting at the gaming miniatures scales (1/3788, 1/2500 etc) and going up from there. Thought Trek gamers here might find it interesting.

I have some of the Corgi die-cast Klingon Birds of Prey. Does anyone have a rough idea what scale they would be?

I'm a member of the new Trek forum.

No clue on the Corgi. Try the Trek forum or Starship Combat News.

Thanks,

John

If you post the models length someone can figure out the scale for you. The problem with the BoP is that there's 3 or 4 "real world" lengths for that class of ship.

Or to be more accurate, there's 3 or 4 classes of ships that are very different in "real world" size, but they all look the same.

Memory-Alpha lists the K'vort-class, B'rel-class and D12-classes. But the only length it gives is 110m (varies).

Edit: wiki link lists the K'Vort class as 320m and the B'Rel class as 160m.

So you might have to do what I did with some of my Federation ships and just pick what size they are supposed to be and go from there. Since most of my ships are 1/7000 I just said they all were and recalculated their "real world" lengths from that.

Only 3 or 4? Star Trek IV alone had three completely different sizes – for the same Bird of Prey. TNG and DS9 had numerous scaling issues, including three BoPs that were larger than Romulan Warbirds. Here's the article on Ex Astris Scientia… try to read it without your head exploding. link

Basically, the tech writers, screenplay writers, modelmakers, and special effects film crews have never been on the same page. Ever. During any episode or film in the entire franchise.

The size charts on Ex Astris are probably the best references you'll find for ship lengths, but you'll never find one that wasn't contradicted at some point. It's one of the main reasons I've lost so much interest in Trek over the years. A franchise that prides itself on technobabble and plausible scientific explanations, but they can't pin down basic details like ship sizes, times/distances between star systems, or zero-gravity motion.

Well, FASA tried to cover the size discrepencies with three different Bird of Prey designs, K-22 Scout, D-32 Cruiser and the largest L-42 Frigate (what the K'vort is meant to be probably, the largest Bird of Prey)

In the All Scale Trek forum, the plan is as follows, as mentioned in the following 'Mission statement'…

"Simply put, we're trying to create something special here, but not in the way you might first think.

For many forums it's all about content. After all, people want to read interesting topics, be "wowed" by amazing pics and above all, be entertained. Those are all very valid reasons to check out a cool site, but we hope to do more.

The true sense of community spirit and general camaraderie on the net seems to have changed since the early days. The rise of social networking sites have made us more "connected" than we ever were. Yet, it feels like we lost something along the way. We're "connected". We "talk". But too often, we get the information we "need" and move on, with little personal involvement.

In our own way, we would like to change that, and regain some of the old internet magic. We hope to create a strong community willing to go the extra mile to help inspire their fellow hobbyists, and bring back that sense of ownership and involvement.

We'd like to underscore one final point. You are the most important part of this site. Your input will serve to shape this forum and our community into something we'll hopefully all be proud of.

Time will tell if we are just looking through rose tinted glasses, or if something good will come out of this.

We hope you will join us in creating something special."

So, if you're into Trek miniatures here on TMP, or maybe Trek kit building as well, come along and see what the place is about. I've been there for the last week, and although I'm personally mainly into Trek gaming minis, the stuff I've seen on Trek kits is cool.

Mark has done a great job promoting our little corner of cyberspace.

I'd just like to add that we also have sections for toys, props and other collectables as well. If you like Star Trek, chances are you just might find something of interest (especially if you like looking at pics). :)

So, anyone joined the All Scale Trek forum? It looks like it's developing into a nice forum, and not just for Trek kit modelers. It caters for gaming miniatures (so we here at TMP are catered for), collectables and toys (Playmates etc), even costumes and props too. As I said, I joined up just because of my interest in FASA scale starship miniatures, but I plan to be posting some stuff about my RPG 25/28mm minis as well.

It's a friendly place, and you'll be more than welcome if you come along. There are a few folk from the Starship Modeler Star Trek forum already, as well as from Starship Combat News forum as well. But the more the merrier, eh? Help turn it into a dynamic and wide ranging Trek modeling and collectables forum.
