I recently ran a Royal Navy landing scenario based on the exploits of Sir Home Popham's exploits during the summer of 1812, which tied down a whole army which could have been used against Wellington during the Salamanca campaign. In this scenario the RN lands marines and sailors with some 18lber ships' guns to help the local Spanish forces take a French fortified position guarding a river crossing. Victory conditions were determined by the capture of the fort; If it remained uncaptured, the French win; if the Allies captured it, or forced a surrender, they win. In the end, the French held out even though all the guns were put out of action and the reinforcements received a mauling at the hands of the Royal Marines! For more, visit the blog The rules were the Nunawading Wargames Association's home-brew set called Cold Steel and the figures were plastic and metal 1/72nd from my own collection.

Nice scenario and layout, very nice figures too. Back in the 90s there was a great article in wargames illustrated or miniature wargames of doing a naval landing scenario, anybody remember that one I wanted to do that for a long time. In the meantime I might try the one in this thread. I have a lot of figures gathered together over the years Marines, shore defense troops sailors, dragoons etc. |
