My wargaming buddy and I got back from the 2nd annual Colonial Barracks convention this afternoon. We had a great time both playing and running games. The "bull session" Saturday night after the big Anglo-Egyptian 1882 game (using Larry Brom's original 1960s/1970s 30mm armies) was, in my opinion, the best thing about the convention – remembering old wargaming friends who are no longer with us and telling hilariously funny stories about gaming, Civil War reenacting in the early 1970s, etc. Although the crows was lessened this year by Hurricane Sandy and various ilnesses, we still have a number of well run games. Lori said next year's convention will be the first weekend in November. We'll be playing games using rules designed/inspired by Larry Brom including The Sword and the Flame and all its variants and derivetives (sp?), as well as all of the "big battle" rules such as Chassepot and Needlegun and To the Sound of the Guns. Pictures and a more detailed report will come soon to Col Campbell's Barracks blog. Jim |

I enjoyed both the gaming and the stories. My wife enjoyed herself --playing in a "bugs vs. British" game --"The Hive and the Flame". She wants to use my colonial British-now all she needs are the bugs and a steam tank or 2. |
