From the AP comes this: link BEIJING (AP) — China has test flown a second model of a prototype stealth fighter, aviation experts said Thursday, in a sign of its aircraft industry's growing sophistication. Photos posted to the Internet Thursday showed the radar-avoiding aircraft airborne near the northeastern city of Shenyang with its landing gear still down. Two Chinese-made J-11 fighters accompanied it on the flight, which Chinese military enthusiast websites said took place Wednesday and lasted about 10 minutes

J-11 is pretty badass looking. Hope GHQ doesnt take forever to make one in 1:285: link |

I want to see pics of the J11B, with the stealth intakes

"radar-avoiding aircraft" OK, just because China says it is doesn't make it so. They have a bad habit of over selling their technology advances and since they reverse engineer many of their items like this they have a difficult time improving the design. Also, until they drastically, and I mean drastically with a capital D, improve their engines their aircraft will have numerous performance issues. Having said that, however, these types of new aircraft will pose a huge threat to Vietnam, Taiwan, and other countries in disputes over the Spratleys and other resource areas. |

That's true, but I imagine with all of the stuff in the press, and/or general knowledge of how stealth is being, or has been developed, plus all the stuff they are stealing over the internet, with spies around the globe, or that Pakistan has given them (anti-radar paint samples from our stealth Blackhawk), they'll be on the fast track to match the top line tech rather quickly. Apparently, their spy network makes the extensive one run by the Soviets appear to be rather amateurish by comparison. On the plus side right now, it appears they've been unable to copy the top-grade Russian fighter engine designs, successfully, so are now working on their own indigenous models. That should set them back some. |

Paint it black and it's stealth. Gotcha. Worked for the A*Team's van |

You do know that the basic math behind RCS prediction was a Soviet's physics paper, right? And that the US has been working on stealth aircraft since the late 1950s. The basics are not all that difficult. It's the obscene quality controls you need that makes stealth a challenge. |

Plus producing the high tech materials, no doubt. |

It's the obscene quality controls you need that makes stealth a challenge. China. They will paint it black and call it a day. If the pilot is VERY lucky they won't use lead paint |

The U.S. has been cutting back on stealth fighter orders. We will see how that works for us in another 6-10 years

Should have bought more F-22s, and fewer F-35s, I imagine

I showed this to my partner; her comment: "It will be rubbish and not work properly like everything made in China". She is Chinese! |

That's probably true for the early models, but I suspect that may change over time. Japanese products used to be junk too, until they surpassed most of the world in terms of their engineering, and production quality. |

"It will be rubbish and not work properly like everything made in China" Like the high speed trains, sadly. |

We went on one of the high speed trains; it managed not to crash:). Wonderful trains to look at but the systems design and engineering is dreadful. We also went up the tallest building in Shanghai, the Shanghai World Financial Center, which is seriously tall. My partner would only go up once she found it was designed by, and the construction was managed by, the Japanese. |
