War In 15MM31 Oct 2012 6:42 a.m. PST

A little over a decade ago I painted a large collection of 15mm Aztecs and Conquistadors. When I completed my 25mm/28mm Pirate collection in June of this year, I decided to return to the Aztecs and Conquistadors and complete some of the detail work that had not been done when that collection was first painted. With that detail work now done, I have put together a 37-picture gallery of that collection in diorama form. I'm rather happy with the way it turned out. I hope you'll take a look. The gallery can be seen at link

That is about awesome! I love the details in the city. Very well done

Alkl your galleries are stunning. The best 15mm work I have seen.

Timmo uk31 Oct 2012 12:04 p.m. PST

Just brilliant. I often visit your site to be inspired. I tend to feel that 15/18mm figures get rather less exposure than 28mm (might just be me rather than fact) so it's always a pleasure to see the sweeping vistas you create, populated with stacks of figures.

I'd love to see you do the AWI!

Awesome. Really. Can't say how much I respect you for this.

Cheers,

Wow not only a great display of modelling but of historical research as well. Thank you for sharing

Gentlemen, I thank you for your kindness. When I post a project or a collection on TMP I hope that I am exercising more than my vanity. Almost everyday, I visit this site (often several times). Those visits are expeditions in search of ideas and inspirations for things I am doing, plan to do or even things that have never occurred to me before but now spark my imagination. It is wonderful to know that my projects spark ideas in others as well. Timmo, like you, I tend to feel that 15mm/18mm receive less exposure than the big boys and certainly less than the 15mm/18mm deserve. That said, I admit I love the 25mm/28mm as well, but in my hobby world each scale has its own place: for me the 25mm/28mm are better than 15s when it comes to Adventure, Pulp and Victorian Gothic…, while the 15mm/18mm are the figures of war on a grand scale with the "sweeping vistas" you spoke of. I love both, and I'm happy to have feet in both camps. Thank you all again for taking the time to write. I am very gratified by the fact that you enjoyed the gallery (s), and I appreciate more than I can say your generous words because vanity is part of this after all. Richard

Beautiful work. The figures are impressive, but the city is awesome.

A friend and I had just started talking about adapting Saga for 15mm Aztecs. Plenty of inspiration here!

Thanks so much for taking the time to write. Your expressions of enjoyment of the gallery are deeply appreciated. Doug, I'm really glad you like the city. If you had time to read the descriptive piece that goes with the gallery, you would note that the step pyramids and little temples on top are built from wonderful pieces found in the Milton-Bradley game Back Off Buzzard which is a terrible game; almost pointless game. Having said that I bought about 7 of them on ebay in order to build my temple area, and I love them. I should also note that the market place is my effort to copy in 15mm a beautiful set of 28mm Aztec market stalls I saw in photographs of a game convention in Europe. The convention name slips my memory right now but it's identified in my gallery's descriptive write up. Again, thanks to all of you for writing and for the very kind words. Richard

Phil, thanks so much for the kind words. I can take credit for the work on the figures and the buildings, but the pictures are taken by my daughter. She has the eye, and we have found (thanks to a suggestion on the Perry website) that for lighting you can't do better than natural lighting so all but one of my galleries has been photographed outside. Again, I'm really happy you liked the gallery; it was fun collection to do. And I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to write. Richard

My pleasure Richard!
All the best,
Phil.
