Pardon my ignorance, what was the significance of Charleston during the battle of Bunker Hill? Does it need to be represented on a wargame table? Thank you. Blues 4

American militia set up in the houses stopped the British troops landing at the warf there. Howe did not want to attempt to land his troops on the warf while they would be under fire. So Howe moved the landing further down which took longer to get all of his troops moved across the bay. Also when the British were attempting to assualt Breeds Hill, Militia in the houses kept up a steady fire on the British left flank. |

Unless you are trying to do the landing there, it is unimportant. The British took it under bombardment to set it afire to drive out the snipers. That did the trick. |

My friend Darrell built a 3D model, with Charles Town. It
causes decisions to be made. They may not necessarily be GOOD decisions, but isn't that what wargaming is all about? |

Charles Town perhaps? Der Alte Fritz, I am willing to stand corrected although it does clearly say Charlestown on this map. link Thank you Blues 4 |

The referenced link is a modern map. This one shows the style in usage in 1775 for the town near Boston:
Here's another, from 1800, still showing the older style: link Rick |
