Hi all,

Well I finished my annual B-day game. This year I decided to leave good ole Phatt Daddy alone and go after the old enemy: the LRL rebels on Liberty. I also decided to try out the new changes to FUBAR: Ultra FUBAR. And let me tell you, it's a real game changer. If you haven't tried it and you like FUBAR then you'll love Ultra. Anyway, back to the story…

When I last played, the LRL had launched a major invasion of the Island of Crossland which is a major part of the US Commonwealth of Liberty (Liberty recently became the 58th state in the Union- this is the year 2181). The newly formed Republic of Liberty hopes to snatch Crossland and its vital spaceport, Centerville, away from the Americans in hope of cutting off the American state from the rest of the Union so that their invasion of the mainland of the Commonwealth of Liberty will be successful.

The LRL, the regular army of the Republic of Liberty, sent in its elite 2d Infantry Brigade to claim the island of Crossland. So far the US response to the LRL's invasion has been disorganized and disjointed. The state defense forces and Army National Guard have joined the regular 31st Infantry and some scattered Special Forces A-Teams in a desperate bid to slow down the LRL invasion. However their best efforts have been to no avail. The 2d Brigade's fighters have swept aside all of Crossland's defenses and are now driving swiftly on the island's capital: Centerville.

Now the battered but unbowed survivors of the 31st Infantry had joined up with the leading elements of the USCMC's 1st Battalion, 4th Marines in a last stand at the Crossland River just in front of Centerville. If the Americans can stand at the Crossland then there is a chance the reinforcements from the mainland can arrive to save the day. Failure here means that Centerville itself will be invaded and that thousands of American lives could be at stake if the LRL uses its artillery or its dreadful Neo-Soviet bioweapons.

Now its up to a handful of GIs and Gyrenes to make a stand at a National Guard Armory now grimly called the "Alamo". Can Gunny Anderson's leathernecks and GIs hold the line? Come over and find out.

I'll have the full battle report posted this coming weekend. I'll have a lot more pictures and a detailed write-up of the battle and my impressions of Ultra FUBAR in the report as well. See you down range.

Well done! Perhaps including a link to the rules would be useful.
More please!

They aren't really available as a download. If you go to my webpage then you'll see the rules that are being tested out for Ultra. Craig is currently working on testing out rules that will be included in Ultra, but as of right now there are no Ultra rules out there. I'm just using the current FUBAR rules with that bit from Ultra to test them out. So far I really like how they change the game experience. You get to do more as a player but the general flavor of FUBAR (dropping activation rolls and the initiative swinging back to your enemy) remains intact.

Interesting. I like the battle report. I'm curious why Craig hasn't said much in the last month about Ultra Fubar. Things were hot and heavy and discussed a bunch. Been waiting to see what he's going to do.

Thanks,

John

From what I've seen the conversations on the message board there seems to come in cycles. I guess things are down right now. Maybe Craig has bigger fish to fry? After all he has a book deal with Osprey for "in the Queen's Name", so who knows what he needs to do.

Craig just appeared on the FUBAR discussion board and posted that he's back from being distracted and that he'll be working on a draft for us to look at. Pretty cool!!

Yeah, since you posted this I went and checked it out.

Thanks,

John
