Apparently it's not as good as Azincourt.

that last observation surprises me.

If he thought this book was not as good as the grail books, then definitely off my list. Got around halfway into the first book and quickly put it down as too sappy and melodramatic. Don't see the appeal, but nonetheless, I have one of his DA books in hardback still unread, so I do keep giving him a shot…

Damon.

I loved the Grail books – they were sharpe in the medieval times.

The last time I talked with him I asked why we had not got sharpes great grand-daddy in the times of marlborough…

I think the DA sequence are very good.

The only series I do not really like reading are the Sharpe books, because they mangle history so bad….

I read it on holiday over three or four days.
It is the fourth book in the Thomas Hookton series and features noble knights, evil priests, eloping ladies, vengeful husbands and holy relics. The ending is the battle of Poitiers.
I enjoyed it.

What does DA stand for? Dickie Acute (aka Richard Sharpe)? If it means Dark Ages, do you mean Uhtred or Derfel?

I'm feeling a bit grumpy this morning, so am taking it out on complete strangers who use undefined acronyms. And no, I haven't read 1356 so sorry, Tango, can't help you. I'm about half way through 'Death of Kings', and rather enjoying it.

In general Cornwell is pretty formulaic. I still enjoy reading his work. Most historical fiction books I have read mangle at least some of the details. Then again, I just watched (or was in the same room as my wife watched) last night's NCIS LA and Covert Affairs and neither resembles what I have a reasonable understanding of either what the CIA or NCIS do.
