I am starting a new project – 28mm Imperial and Swiss. I have decided on Artizan for the Landskechts but I would appreciate any advice on suitable mounted figures and artillery crew. |

What about the new Lead Adventure Artillery and crew? link A little cartoony but bucket loads of character. Their Landsknechts Crossbowmen are also pretty damn cool. LB |

Yes. Mongrel Miniatures figures. |

Thanks, gentlemen, I like the gun from Lead Adventures, but the crew may be, as you say "A little cartoony
" for me, MG. I may get some and paint them for my grandson – or perhaps not as he's already got most of my 15mm DBA armies for use at his school wargames club and it might encourage my new 28s to take the same one way street from my front door to his. I looked for Mongrel Miniatures, Puster, but all I can find are some Russians. I will keep looking. My main concern is compatibility of scale and quality of design and casting. I am less concerned with price, although Foundry look very expensive for what they are. I would buy some mounted figures from them if they are compatible in size, but I would prefer an alternative. Old Glory advertise as 25mm and if true to scale would probably look a little on the small size for me – yes, I'm very fussy about that aspect. |

For mounted miniatures, you might want to take a look at the Eureka Italian Wars range: link |

FR for the artillery crew? |

Front Rank artillery crew would look rather old-fashioned next to the puff-and-slash grandeur of the Artizan landsknechts. They might work better for early 16th century Italian artillerists. |

?? I never made that posting
I put up a lengthy reply on Foundry, Perry, TAG, Eureka and characters of Pro Gloria and Brother Vinnie. Seems the software has bungled up some articles
I would suggest Foundry (the old Perry sculpts) for artillerists – some old GW metal minis also are pretty good. |

BTW: The foundry mercenary knights are among the best you can get – the new stuff however is bordering on horrible, with only very few usable sculpts. The main problem here is that there is only one type of barded horse – I propose to get a set of MenAtArms from the Perries to get more and different barded horses and some Knights with less armour. Eurekas GensdArms and Archers are top quality, but a bit on the small side next to the other stuff (especially Artizan). Artizan works quite well with the old GW metals, though. As guns the Foundries are imho good. GWs are too big. There is a producer of guns in Germany that offers almost any type (like Maximilian Demi-Culverine, etc), but he is very expensive (20-30 EUR per gun) and hard to find. I will dig out some shop if you are interested. BTW: I am REALLY bothered about my post vanishing and being replaced with someones else
I hope this will not happen more often. |

My thanks to everyone. I have just ordered some Foundry mercenary knights as a first step, plus some Artizan pikemen. Thanks again |

I got myself some of the WotR-horses for variety, and later added some of the barded plastic horses from the Perry ManAtArms. The armour is outfashioned for the later Italian wars, but it looks better then identical horses. There is a pack of WotR-Foundry horses on eBay: auction Experience shows that these are slight miscasts that may need some work, but all minis I got from this seller where usable with minor work. The Perry ManAtArms plastics can be used to supplement Gensdarmes with lesser (or outfashioned) personal armor. The horses intermix with the Foundry knights, perhaps because both were sculpted by the Perry team (if a decade or two apart). Imho a perfect and comparatively cheap way to flesh out the metal knights. Good luck in your project! |
