link The link shows my tutorial on how to make movement trays. They will work for any figures, 6mm to 60mm, in any genre. Cheers! |

question though, when you took out the strips, was there still a lip around the try to secure the figures? how wide should it be? |

No, I removed the strip on the outer edge of the trays. Again, any strips would limit the figure bases which could be used on the trays. The figures ride on top of the trays only, as there are no strips to hold figure bases on top of the trays at all. Strips take up precious real estate on the trays, so leaving all strips off of the trays give them greater versatility: they will work with either Regular (figures are placed in base-to-base contact on top of the Movement Trays), or Irregular Formation unit types (Irregular figures are spaced with 1/8"-1/2" space between bases on top of the Movement Trays). The size of the tray depends on how many figures you would like to move on the top of the tray. If you want to move a unit of six figures wide, by three ranks deep (18 figures), with each figure having a one-inch square base, the tray would be 3" x 6", if they would be capable of Regular Formation, or base-to-base contact. For Irregular Formation units, add 1/8" to 1/2" spacing between each figure, as per BattleSystem rules. An easier way to measure size needed for Irregular Formation unit trays, would be to arrange the correct quantity of figures, in the frontage, and the number of ranks desired, then measure their footprint on your table, and cut the floor tile to that size. Remember, you can always turn a movement tray 90-degrees, to change the frontage, and the number of ranks, to achieve a column formation easily (for example, a frontage of 3 x 6 ranks deep).
