Any suggestions on how to paint a good representation of a moody North Atlantic sea for ship bases? Techniques and recommended Gw or Vallejo paints are most welcome. Thanks |

What I use is "Flexpaste" (woodland scenics), Vallejo makes "Gel Base" in various colors,White (VAL 26.216) which is similar to above.I use this to sculpt waves on the base after the ship has been attached. You can make some serious waves if you build it up thick enough, but drying time will increase. Next I paint base with Dark Sea Blue (VAL 898),Wash with Deep Green (VAL 970 mixed with Thinner VAL 820). Drybrush wave tops lightly with Off White (VAL 820). Cover base with Gloss Varnish (VAL 510). After many years of ship painting, this is what I currently do. I mainly paint 1/2400 and 1/600 ships. |
