Going to build a scale model of the Dionysus theatre in Athens for a theatre project, there are a couple of images available to google, anyone know of any sources? Thanks, Brian 1" = 1 foot? |

I picked up a poster of the Acropolis while in Athens, which has a plan in one corner. Nowadays, you have the semi-circular stage and some rows of benches, which gradually fade into the hill side. Looking at the chart, the thing is huge! Bigger than the nearby theatre of Herodes Atticus where modern performances are held. The semi-circular stage is about 18 meters from left to right. The seating is 60 meters from left to right. However, the semi-circular seating has a seating area behind it and another behind that, so it is 87 meters from the back of the stage to the very back of the seating. None of this includes the building behind the stage. At 1" = 1' hmmm, this works out to be about 23 feet 9 inches from back to front, 16 feet, 4 inches from side to side, with the stage a bit under 5 feet wide. While the poster is too large for my scanner, I could scan and send you the corner with the plan. Grelber |

Put pictures up when you're done? One of my life ambitions is to watch a performance in one of these surviving theatres like Ephesus or Epidauros. There is a very interesting Roman theatre cut into a rock outcrop in Alcudia on Majorca. |
