Anybody know what colours to paint Boer War Pom Poms (carriage, barrel etc)? Come to think of it, how were normal artillery carriages painted? Also does anyone know where I can find out about the colours/designs of Boer War helmet flashes? Many thanks. |

At the time, the RA were still painting their equipment the old blue-grey colour of yore. The helmet flashes were based upon regimental colours. Again, the RA would have been red over blue for a start. Others were many and varied and some included cockades. For more, try the Victorian Wars Forum link They should have something. |

Great link Artilleryman – many thanks. As regards colour of artillery carriages, I have a copy of "Wargaming in History – The Second Anglo-Boer War" by Edwin Herbert. On page 30 he writes "The wooden parts of the guns and gun-carriages were painted a yellowish khaki. The General Service and ambulance wagons were also painted in this colour." Hmmm !!! |
