Hello folks --- the fort has it's doors done and is painted!

See the pictures here: link

Just the foam/MDF based with the outside wooden palisade left to do (once my brand new foam cutter arrives)! Next up is the French seige position and engineering trenches.

Thatīs the best tutorial and also the best material Iīve ever seen concerning building a FIW-fort. I adore you for your gaming table and also for your facilities. Great work.

Thanks guys … glad you are finding it useful. And thanks for reading my blog in general … Happy to know I'm not just talking to myself … Which I've been known to do :-)

Looks fantastic, I've been following this.

How did you paint the fort? I never seem able to get that worn wood effect you've done so well.

Base black using Armory spray paint.

Heavy drybrush of GW scortched brown (now called Rhinox Hide). Medium drybrush of GW Graveyard Earth (can't remember the new name). Lastly, a light drybrush of Foundry base sand "C" (same as GW Bleached Bone).

The trick is really working out the bleached bone in order to avoid the splochy highlight … but I think the color combination is very forgiving.

I use a paper towel to work the paint into the brush evenly before hitting the model.

Does anyone know a source for the Tippi foam cutter in the UK? It looks very useful.

I'd check and see if anyone resells scenic express stuff in the UK … Otherwise shipping might not be that bad …. I just gone done using mine to cut out the trenches in the blue foam base for my fort … It is an awesome foam cutter … Best I've seen or used by far.

I've bitten the bullet and ordered direct from the States. Actually the carriage was only about $9.00 USD so not a great burden at all.

Excellent!
