link This is a promising rule set. It looks like it has a lot of flavour and a distinctive C&C aspect (your commanders have their own personality, a bit like in Ironbow). I'm particularly intrigued by the recon minigame/generator that takes place before the battle, which you can use to create a battlefield of your linking or to purchase various subterfuges/advantages

I am interested in this game and have some of the miniatures from this company. I am a slow painter and gravitate to skirmish and away from mass combat. To me the best part of the teaser is the mention of Arab forces. I would love it if Fireforge made some. I don't really understand the European fixation on random generation. Then again, I have always been turned off by the tournament scene. We game at a buddy's house and the battlefield is usually set up before we arrive with miniatures, beer, and pretzels in hand. But then again, I am old. |

I was involved in a play test with these rules and there is some good and bad. It's vastly different than most rules where the pre-game set up is an afterthought and the movement/combat/morale is the heart of the system. Here, the pre-game set up is everything and the rest of the system is very basic. I'm not sure how gamers who are used to throwing a game together at the last second are going to do with this system, since the set up can be quite involved. My biggest pet peeves were the use of terminology(to hit, wound, etc., are standard now in most games-so just use those instead of something new) and I'm not sure you want to be the reserves if you're in a multi-player game. I couldn't imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if you sat around for a few hours and your forces never get into the game(of which there is a good chance). The army lists, however, are pretty incredible, and it does produce the flavor of a medieval battle. I'm sure the system could easily be ported over to the 100 Years War, War of the Roses, etc. |

I really hope that Fireforge does Mongols and Russians in plastics too! |

How many figures are used by the game? Is it big unit style like HC, or skirmish style? |

Big unit style, so your armies for HC or WAB will fit with the system. |

Will it work with Impetus style big bases? Steve |

I got the book this weekend (signed by Alessio and Fabio). Very nice looking book, full colour and hard-cover. The pre-battle setup seems indeed be more involved than with other games (my experience is from Warhammer mostly). You get to scout against your opponent and gain control of table parts to put in a scenic feature pre-battle. By the looks of it it wont take to much time though and it really adds some strategy to the pre-game setup. In reality a commander would also like to find some favorable ground (ie. having a wood covering his flank or the like) and this simulates it well I think. Working my way through the rules still, its definatly a different ballgame compared to Warhammer
For the bases, you can base individually (infantry 20x20mm) or per stand, that would be 60x40mm then. 25x50 or 50x50 for Cavalry. But they also included a section for what to do with different sized bases. |

Thank you for your effort in the description. Let us know how it plays when you get a chance please. I will probably buy them when I see them just because I am a medieval rules junkie. Allen |
