From the images I have I can't determine if the camo has a hard or soft edge. I'm going to paint up a number of 1/200th AIM planes with an air brush, I'm wondering if I have to mask the camo.

It may depend upon the aircraft, and period.

Most of the ones I've seen from the 1970's and 1980's appear to be hard edged, so that's how I've painted them.

Check Google Images for more color photos of the ones you're looking for. They have tons more photos than some of their competitors.

For the camo schemes I did, I ended up mixing my own shades of craft paints, to get them to match the schemes I'd seen. Lightened them a bit with about 50% white as well, for a more sun-faded look.

Worked quite well, in my opinion.

Even a soft edge in 1/200 is going to look pretty hard…
