"An ancient statue that was recovered by a Nazi expedition in the 1930s was originally carved from a highly valuable meteorite.
Researchers say the 1,000-year-old object with a swastika on its stomach is made from a rare form of iron with a high content of nickel.
They believe it is part of the Chinga meteorite, which crashed about 15,000 years ago.
The findings appear in the Journal, Meteoritics and Planetary Science…"

"…It was discovered in Tibet in 1938 by German scientist Ernst Schafer. His expedition was supported by the Nazis, in particular by Heinrich Himmler, the head of the SS. Himmler was said to believe the Aryan race originated in Tibet and was keen to recover objects from the area…"

The article says it is priceless, but you couldn't sell it on Ebay because of the swastuka in the middle. Ebay wouldn't care that it was made almost 1,000 years before Dolf and his boys came around.

It is a great idea of pulp scenario. You could have German, Soviet, Warlord Chinese and different adventurers all competeing to get the statue off for different reasons.

…along with some professorial type from the University of Indiana, who still looks good in a fedora, but would now have to hobble along with the aide of a walker and a buxom, six foot tall Amazon nurse from the Ukraine!

wink

Rrobbyrobot03 Oct 2012 1:38 p.m. PST

A buxom, six foot tall Amazon nurse from the Ukraine! Now I know why I should have been wealthy.

Sundance03 Oct 2012 3:04 p.m. PST

Old news.

Glengarry503 Oct 2012 3:08 p.m. PST

Well, I for one had never heard of it.

Cincinnatus03 Oct 2012 5:36 p.m. PST

Pretty much everything we discuss around here is old news.

WarrenB03 Oct 2012 6:14 p.m. PST

Fer the luvva Mike, Tango. Do you ever read TMP before you dump truckloads of the internet's leavings on it?

Ratbone03 Oct 2012 7:16 p.m. PST

Is it really "dump"ing to have a message post and thread topic that duplicates?

Old news is only old to people who have read/heard it before. Much like common sense, not EVERYBODY knows what YOU know. Believing otherwise is a fallacy of arrogance and a palace of frustration.

I didn't know about it. I find it interesting. Thanks Armand.

Whitestreak03 Oct 2012 8:42 p.m. PST

Pretty nasty comments from some of you.

Like 79thPA, this was the first *I* had heard about.

Considering some of the trash that gets posted on these fora, this was pretty interesting.

She's a leftover (in more ways than one) from the Khaddafi regimes!

Is a backwards swastika count as banned on ebay?

Jeigheff04 Oct 2012 6:07 p.m. PST

This is new to me too!

Interesting story. Thanks for posting and keep them coming. Ignore the PMT'ers who moan about everything.

Armand – we love you but I still think you should have your very own TMP board…

As I've said before, I think Tango01 to be a net positive asset to TMP and it's members.

I haven's seen any dross, but I will take the word of others that he's not always spot on and that some of the junque he finds may be old news, but he finds enough cool gems to more than make up for whatever faults others may find in his efforts.

Personally, I may just be the best "Which Tango01 post do I look at today" person here on TMP, but I've never found any of his posts to be less than worthy of consideration.

Tango01 Supporting Member of TMP05 Oct 2012 3:40 p.m. PST

Many, many thanks for your kindly words my friends! (big smile).

time to time maybe there were a "old" news, but this is not a newspaper, it's a wargaming site with history, etc, so many people miss "old" news (as myself many times).

Wonder to me how other forum members never suffered the sniper persecution I had when they post something "old" "repeated" or "clone" threads.

I had never point to any forum members friend here that he (or she) had posting something I had posted before.

It's his right to post wathever he want here.
And ours to read or comment it or not.

Thanks again for your support.

I remember getting excited about this as well. Sadly, though, it appears the statue is fake: link

Still, neat "MacGuffin" for a pulp game.
