My guess is that the artist who wrapped the AK-47 in U.S. Dollar bills wasn't familiar with the cold war or the factions involved. |

Couldn't very well blame the bad stuff on people he agrees with. |

It never ceases to amaze me what passes for art these days. I wonder if any of these artists could make enough money to eat without a government grant. |

Christ no, Dn Jackson! I live in a neighbourhood full of folks who fancy themselves as artists and musicians. Without the government or Mummy and Daddy giving them money, they would be pretty ed. Sure, we all have dreams. But when that involves becoming a 20-something year old manchild you need to get a grip. |

Gentlemen, before we get too worked up, it might be useful to remember that we play with toy soldiers. |

Better to have fun and games than be an ignorant, wussy pacifist. That said, the idea of using a firearm for art is neat, but a few of those were completely unnecessary. Namely the one with the U.S. dollar all over it. The last one that's been bedazzled and covered in butterflies? I can think of a few girls who'd love that because it's shiny AND it's an AK. I can think of one who'd try to scrape all that crap off and save it though. |

It's also a rip-off, of far more imaginative pieces from Mozambique, especially by Cristovao Canhavato who has been doing this 'art' for decades. I agree with the manchild argument, the pieces on display are the product of a person who has been told they are an 'artist'. How about having one with its barrel in a knot, to symbolise peace, Christmas, my nine year old could create deeper pieces. |

Art doesn't exist. Art is an excuse to stare at our own collective bellybutton. Art is a fake. Death to Art! (Now, now, Mr Basileus, take your blue pills like a good boy
here you are! Nice dreams!) |

I suppose it'd be nice if one day they actually were AK47s. But I suppose that just shows the strength of the brand. I quite liked the one covered in thorns. As for the US Dollars – meh. Most places in Sub Saharan Africa that's the quickest route to getting one for your child soldier. |

The one with a wire silhouette of a person around it is interesting, I might actually buy that one
Not so taken with the rest of them. |

I kind of liked the one mounted on a wall with a nice bright light around it: easy to see, easy to grab when you need to show hospitality to the home invader breaking down your door. The flower/butterfly/bling-covered one? Perfect for that short trip to the mall, goes nicely with the pink digital cammy skirt and tailored desantniki tunic and beret. |
