I am in the middle of a 1944 Normandy project, and I needed lots of good-looking hedgerow markers to recreate the bocage. I was unhappy with the look of the commercial products available, and I'm pretty cheap anyway, so I decided to try my hand at DIY. While I was at it, I also made some fun blast and smoke markers. Here are the results: link |

Excellent stuff, I don't think you can beat it making stuff yourself, all of it looks really good! |

Very nice. I have to make some 10mm hedgerows myself so I will take inspiration from you. I suppose I don't have to say it, but make sure your steel wool markers never get wet or damp. Where the steel fibres are so fine, they will oxidise and disintegrate very rapidly. On the other hand, the stiffness of the wool allows for more realistic shaping. They look great. |

I share you concern about rusting steel wool. I'm hoping the spray primer provides some protection. If not, they represent a few pennies and a few minutes work each to replace, so no biggie. |

Nice hedges, but for the benefit of those of us on this side of the Atlantic – what the hell is 'talus'? |

Little irregular white pebbles,* about 1mm across, that have a low density. Woodland Scenics makes some, and it is still very inexpensive. I've been using a bag of medium grain for over a decade now (mainly to add some texture to bases). Here's the link to the product line: link *I vaguely recall from a college geology class that talus is irregular rock debris. But I did not do well in Geology, so take it for what it's worth. |

Either way, both are fun to say! |

Very Nicely Done Im just 'leary' of steel wool fibers chipping off, do hope the paint does and should seal them however. Good job. |
